About me and my therapy practice

Hello, my name is Grace, and I am an Integrative Counsellor working with adults in Gateshead and Newcastle.

I help people who feel they have stopped believing in themselves.

This can look like:

-Smiling and going along with what is asked of you, knowing it isn’t what you want but not knowing how to stop

-Putting other people first, holding back what you really think or questioning whether your needs matter

-Feeling stuck, unsure of what you want as though you’ve lost touch with who you are.

If this sounds like you, please get in touch by sending me an email, and we can work together to get your spark back.

How I can help:

I offer a warm, accepting space where you can talk honestly, explore what matters to you and begin to develop greater trust in yourself.

I am passionate about helping people who want to understand themselves more and to feel more confident expressing their needs.

Whilst I have over five years experience in this work, and have completed various courses designed to help me further my skills, ultimately I believe, you are the expert in your story and your experience will be your own. I am here to help you come up with your own answers, see your own strengths and decide on your own steps to take.

I will listen without judgement and respect you and what you have to say. I will work at your pace and try to see things from your point of view. Together we will discover what you really want from your life moving forward.

I know from my own experience that feeling different or misunderstood can make it difficult to trust yourself. As a neurodivergent person, learning to value who I am, even when other people see things differently, has been an important part of my life and that is one reason I care about helping people feel heard and accepted.

If you're ready to give this a go, email me at selfcentrecounselling@outlook.com or by the link at the top of this page, and we can talk about booking your first appointment.

Practice description

My practice is called Self Centre Counselling because I believe that no matter what the issue, we all, at some point need to come back to ourselves and refocus on what we really want.

My therapy practice is not a "one size fits all" service. My aim is to get to know you and understand things from your point of view. I will work at your pace to uncover what could help you and I will offer suggestions of what we could do to shift your perspective and help you feel differently. I will go further than the "how does that make you feel?" question and try to be creative with what you bring instead of simply nodding along.

My aim is that you leave my sessions feeling heard and understood. I want you to really believe in yourself again and get your spark back so you can glow with confidence and I will help you to realise your full potential. To do this, I may gently challenge you to come away from your appointments with different things to consider and reflect on.

My first session

I know that reaching out to speak to a counsellor can feel daunting and as there are so many services to choose from, it can be difficult to work out who is right for you.

To give you an idea of what therapy will be like with me, I offer a small discount on the first appointment. I will use this appointment as an assessment to understand what you are looking for from therapy and to help find out if I am the right fit for you. This is your opportunity to ask any questions you might have and discuss what you're hoping to achieve.

The first appointment is £45. Following this, online appointments are £55 and in-person appointments are £65.

It's normal to feel nervous when trying something different and counselling is no exception! The first session is designed with this in mind and so there are no trick questions and I will do my best to help you feel calm and actually enjoy the appointment. We will discuss what brought you here, what life looks like currently and what you think you'd like to be different.

There is no expectation after the first appointment for you to book in with me again but I hope that when you leave, you have a better understanding of how I work and can make an informed decision about whether this feels right for you.

Supervisor - Gateshead

Gateshead NE8
Sessions from £55.00

Features

  • Available for home visits

Availability

I have availability for new supervisees and can offer online sessions or if you have a suitable work space I can come to you to deliver supervision in your counselling room. There may be a small additional charge for travel depending on your location.

About me and my therapy practice

I know the challenges that us counsellors can face and am here to help you navigate them. I am dedicated to helping you become the best counsellor you can be.

Why Choose Me?

I am a friendly and relaxed person and I pride myself on being down to earth and approachable. I love being a counsellor but also understand the pitfalls and difficulties that this career can involve. I started counselling because counselling helped me believe in myself and my practice is about helping clients to believe in themselves and what they can achieve.

I believe that my skills, knowledge and experience can help you to build confidence in your abilities so you too can believe in your abilities and reach your full potential as a counsellor.

I think that like the work we do with our clients, an effective and supportive supervision is based on the relationship that we have. Therefore I think it important for us to get to know each other. By understanding more about who you are and how you work, I believe I will be best placed to help you work out what you need from supervision.

Please get in touch if you'd like to book an informal appointment where we can work out if we are a good fit.

I look forward to hearing from you!

About me:

I am a Registered BACP Member, currently applying for Accreditation.

I am a Qualified Integrative Counsellor: My training was person- centre focussed but also covered Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Psychodynamic approaches.

I have several years of experience working with Trauma: I started working in Victim Support in 2018 and qualified as a counsellor in 2021. My placement hours were with Someone Cares, a charity supporting Survivors of abuse and since qualifying I have worked as a counsellor for Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland.

Alongside working for Rape Crisis I have my own private practice and I am now adding supervision to the services I offer.

Please get in touch to know more.

Practice description

What I Offer:

Regular Supervision: I know how important supervision is in helping you to navigate what is going on for you in your practice and I can offer regular support to help you feel you are not alone.

Skill Development: I can share my knowledge and perspective to help you to enhance your counselling techniques and build confidence in your abilities. I can support you whether you are an experienced counsellor or are newly qualified to explore new avenues and work out what parts of counselling you would like to look into further.

Safeguarding Advice: I will help you to manage safeguarding issues as they arise with your clients. I understand the risks that can be involved in working with individuals and will work with you to ensure you feel that both you and your clients are safe.

Criminal Justice Processes: Having previously worked for Victim Support and now working for Rape Crisis, I have a good understanding of pre-trial therapy and what this entails. I can help you to feel confident working with clients who are involved with the criminal justice system.

Self-Care Strategies: While supervision is largely about client work, I have often found supervision useful when it has helped me to learn about myself. I offer my time to also help you look at and understand more about your needs and help you to maintain your own well-being. As they say "you can't pour from an empty cup", I think this is such an important element of supervision.

Professional Growth: I believe that my approach will help you to feel supported to get what you need from our sessions to help you put the steps in place to achieve your career aspirations.

My first session

Fancy talking over a cuppa?

I think it is really important that we spend some time together initially going through what you would like to get out of supervision. I therefore offer a no obligation first appointment where we can both see how we work together. I can do this online or I can come to you - there may be an additional travel charge depending on your location.

At the first session, should you wish to continue working with me, we will go through a contract and agree on a regular time slot for your appointments.
