About me and my therapy practice

I’m a qualified Counsellor working with a broad range of issues and mental health problems. I currently split my time between private practice, corporate work and education, where I hold the post of Counselling Lead in a secondary school.

I believe we all have the resources within us to be who we want to be, but sometimes we lose our way. When this happens, the view we have of ourselves can be fragmented like a jigsaw puzzle, where the pieces don’t seem to fit. Often this is as a result of significant events or changes in our lives. Talking to a professional unrelated to you or the problem in a non-judgemental, safe environment, can help you find your way back to a happier and healthier way of being.

As a person-centred counsellor, my role is one of a facilitator in your personal development. I do this by walking alongside you as you examine the pieces of your life that don’t feel right. I listen and try to understand what it’s like from your perspective. Feeling heard and understood increases self-knowledge and is often the starting point for significant, positive change. Working together, it is possible to create a new picture where the pieces fit again. Where you feel, more comfortable, more able, and hopefully, happier in your skin.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have experience working with adults and young people (11 to 17) for a wide range of presenting issues and in a range of settings.

I hold a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and I have undertaken specialist training in the areas of:

  • Children & Young People
  • Bereavement
  • Sexual Abuse

As part of my commitment to working ethically and safely, I undertake ongoing professional development and training.

Practice description

My practice, Lambourn Valley Counselling, is in the heart of the beautiful Lambourn Valley, near Hungerford in West Berkshire.

I like to work face to face with my clients but I am happy to work over Zoom if this is can be conducive to a positive therapeutic outcome.

I feel it is important to be collaborative with clients to accommodate their needs, as everyone is different. I am happy to work creatively with problems or to get out of the counselling room altogether if required. Walking and talking can be beneficial to some.

I ensure regular reviews take place to ensure we are working towards your goals or desired outcomes.

My first session

In the first instance I offer a brief, complimentary, telephone consultation to find out more about your needs and to let you know a little more about how I work and what you can expect from me. If I am unable to help, I will try and point you in the direction of someone more suitable.

If we decide to work together, I will send you an online registration form, my contract - which outlines how we work together - and a copy of my privacy statement - which outlines how your data will be managed.

In our first session, I will usually ask you to give me some history on what has brought you to counselling, ask about your mood, discuss confidentiality and its limits and talk about what you hope to achieve. After this, and in subsequent sessions, I will be guided by what you feel is most relevant to talk about. This is the Person-Centred way.
