About me and my therapy practice
My approach to therapy is collaborative, flexible, and tailored to your individual needs. I aim to offer a balance of professional guidance and personal autonomy, so you can feel actively involved in your therapeutic process.
In the initial sessions, I carry out a comprehensive assessment to gain a deeper understanding of you and your experiences. This may include exploring areas such as family background, medical history, work life, and relationships. These conversations help build a fuller picture of who you are, what has shaped you, and what has brought you to therapy. We will also clarify your goals and what you hope to achieve through our work together.
I work in an integrative way, meaning I adapt my approach depending on what feels most helpful for you. I draw on a range of therapeutic models, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, and psychodynamic approaches, combining these in a way that best supports your needs and preferences.
Practice description
I offer a warm and non-judgemental space where you can feel safe to be yourself. Starting therapy can feel daunting, so I aim to create an environment where you feel heard and supported from the very beginning.
In our sessions, you’ll have the opportunity to talk openly about whatever is on your mind, at a pace that feels right for you. I will listen with care and curiosity, helping you explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a way that feels manageable and meaningful. Whether you’re feeling anxious, low, overwhelmed, or simply unsure about things in your life, we can gently work through it together.
Therapy is a collaborative process. We’ll work side by side to better understand what’s going on for you, and to find ways forward that feel right and realistic. I may draw on different approaches depending on your needs, whether that’s making sense of past experiences, noticing patterns in the present, or finding practical tools to support you day to day.
You are always in control of what you choose to share, and there is no pressure to talk about anything before you feel ready. My role is to support you with warmth, honesty, and respect, helping you feel more connected to yourself and more confident in moving forward.
My first session
The first session always begins with contracting. This is where I briefly explain some of the legal, ethical and therapeutic boundaries. I then open the floor to any questions you may have in regards to this.
Once that is completed, I will offer you a choice of two ways in which we begin:
1) You start telling me what's going on in your life and why you decided to start therapy. The floor is yours so to speak.
2) We start with simple, easy assessment questions, (like date of birth etc), to ease into the process slowly.
Both options are ultimately designed to help you feel comfortable and in control while allowing me to get to know you a little better and establish trust.
