About me and my therapy practice
Taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting. You may be unsure whether counselling is right for you, or whether I'm the right counsellor. That's why I offer a free 30-minute introductory conversation by phone, Zoom or face-to-face.
There is no obligation to continue. It's simply an opportunity for you to tell me a little about what's been happening, and for us to explore whether working together feels right for you.
My practice has private access, on-site parking and a comfortable, welcoming space where you can talk openly and feel at ease.
For over twenty years, I have supported individuals, young people and families through difficult times, life changes and personal challenges. Over the years, I have learned that no two people are the same. What works for one person may not work for another, which is why I take the time to get to know you and understand what matters most to you.
I aim to offer a genuine, supportive and non-judgemental relationship where you can speak freely about whatever is on your mind. Some people come with a specific problem they want help with, while others simply know that something doesn't feel right and would like to explore things.
Together, we can explore your thoughts, feelings, experiences and relationships at a pace that feels comfortable for you. We can look at patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and find ways to help you move forward with greater confidence and self-understanding.
By talking about your dificulties I can help you develop practical ways of coping helping to reduce stress and managing difficult emotions when they arise.
Clients often tell me they feel heard, accepted and understood. Many describe feeling more confident, more compassionate towards themselves and better able to cope with life's ups and downs as a result of our work together.
Whether you're struggling with something specific or simply looking for a space where you can talk openly and honestly, you're very welcome to get in touch.
Practice description
I am an integrative counsellor, which means I do not rely on a single therapeutic approach. Instead, I draw on a range of evidence-based methods, including Person-Centred Counselling, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Life Coaching skills and Mindfulness. This allows me to tailor our work to your unique needs, circumstances and goals.
What I can help with
I work with adults, children and young people who may be experiencing:
• Anxiety, stress, low mood, depression, anger or loneliness
• Bereavement, ageing, redundancy, separation, divorce and other life transitions
• Difficulties with self-esteem, confidence, resilience or personal growth
• Family, parenting and relationship concerns, including work with couples
• Workplace challenges, bullying, employment issues and work-related stress
• Trauma, addiction and repetitive patterns that affect daily life or relationships
My aim is to support you in developing a greater understanding of yourself and your experiences. Together, we can explore difficult thoughts, feelings and behaviours, identify patterns that may be holding you back, and build confidence, resilience and self-compassion.
I believe that therapy should feel collaborative, respectful and responsive to your individual needs. Your sense of safety and wellbeing will guide our work, and we will regularly review how therapy is progressing to ensure it remains helpful and relevant to you.
I welcome people from a wide range of backgrounds and identities. I am committed to offering a practice that respects culture, disability, faith, sexuality, gender identity, neurodiversity and personal values. You are always welcome to let me know what helps you feel comfortable, respected and understood in our work together.
My first session
The first session is an opportunity to build on our initial introductory conversation so that therapy can begin from the outset. We will discuss practical arrangements, confidentiality and its limits, and how we will review our work together.
We will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you and, once the essentials are covered, begin exploring what matters most in your life right now. My approach is collaborative, compassionate and tailored to your individual needs. There will also be time for you to ask questions and consider whether working together feels like the right fit.
As part of the assessment process, I may gently ask about your current circumstances, relevant personal history, emotional wellbeing and support networks. This helps us develop a shared understanding of your situation and consider the safest and most helpful way forward.
My aim is to provide a supportive, non-judgemental space where you feel heard, understood and able to bring whatever is important to you.
