My availability is flexible during the week for sessions online, assessment or review meetings and parent consultations.
About me and my therapy practice
I am passionate about making a positive change in the lives of children and their families. Particularly those who experience significant life events that impact on their wellbeing, learning and behaviour.
I provide safe and confidential space for children to access their inner resources such as memories, thoughts and feelings suppressed in the subconscious. I guide them to be able to restore these and bring them into the ‘conscious’ through play.
I follow the child’s lead and communicate that I am able to carry those ‘heavy thoughts’ with them. I accept the children as they are and therefore help them develop appreciation for their play as well as themselves.
As a therapist, being able to contain the mess the child makes, I communicate that I am able to contain the chaos from within and therefore contain their confused emotional experiences.
On the other hand, some children might choose to sit in silence and do art, for example. In this instance, I sit with the child, observe and therapeutically respond to their nonverbal cues.
I aim to help children to change perspectives on their challenging life experiences and therefore eliminate suffering related to these. Changes of perspectives later translate into their behaviours and attitudes.
Most of the children I work with struggle with challenges related to neurodiversity or significant life events that impact on their well-being. I have been successful to help children decrease the levels of stress, anxiety and anger. I noticed changes in sibling relationships by tackling rivalry as well as strengthening family relationships.
Practice description
I am grateful to use therapeutic rooms at the weekends, which means that the buildings are freer from distractions. Moreover, it seems more practical for families to schedule therapy sessions at the end of the week to maintain a good balance in a busy weekday schedule.
I provide various types of therapeutic resources, such as nurturing toys, anger release toys, sensory materials or arts and crafts.
Communication and self-expression using therapeutic toys and resources supported by a trusting relationship in a safe environment is the main feature of play therapy.
Each session lasts for 50 minutes once a week at the same time and same place.
My first session
I am happy to provide a 20 minute free call for more details about how Play Therapy works in order to decide if this is the right type of intervention for your child.
Prior to the assessment, the referral form needs to be filled in by the parent, or the person who is referring the child. Additional reports from professionals, such as Educational Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapist, The Child’s Teacher, or SENCO are helpful in the assessment process, if available. Once the referral form is received, an initial parent meeting takes place to thoroughly discuss your concerns and set the aims for therapy.
