About me and my therapy practice
Originally trained in Child-Centered Play Therapy, Sarah has an Art Therapy foundation and training in Creative Counselling. She facilitates Parent and Child Attachment sessions, and holds Outdoor Play Therapy (LandPlay) and Nurture Groups for 4-5 children with similar problems.
Every child and young person is unique and Sarah uses her skills and experience to help overcome the adversity they face. She recognises the importance of working with families and carers to help support the work carried out in the sessions and whenever possible will often tailor information and resources for families.
With a child or young person having the support of both the therapist and their famly, the impact of the work carried out is often greater.
Concessionary rates available on request.
Practice description
What I can help with
ADD / ADHD, Anxiety, Autism, Bereavement, Cultural issues, Depression, Developmental Trauma, Disability, Identity issues, Loss, Parental Divorce/Separation, Long Term Health issues, Self-esteem, Trauma, Abuse, Social and Communication issues.
Children and Young People do not always have the full range of emotional vocabulary and by using Play, Art and Creativity it enables them to create their own specific way of communicating their feelings and emotions. In Creative Therapy words aren't always necessary, due to a child or young person tending to develop a better awareness of emotional vocabulary and their own emotions as part of the therapeutic journey.
My first session
After an initial assessment meeting with parents or carers to understand the child's needs, Sarah can meet the child/young person face to face for a trial session to introduce the Creative Therapy space. This may not always be possible so an information leaflet is sent to the family so that the child or young person has an idea of what the sessions entail. Questions from the child or young person are always encouraged. Please speak to Sarah if you feel your child will find accessing therapy difficult.
