About me and my therapy practice
Siddique Counselling and Psychotherapy – A stepping stone to finding your strength
BA (Hons), PG Dip, MSc
MBACP, UKCP (UPCA)
I warmly welcome you to my profile. Choosing to begin psychotherapy or counselling can feel like a significant step and may bring up many emotions in itself. I want you to know that I see you, and I recognise the courage it takes to reach out. My aim is to offer support in a way that feels safe, respectful, and meaningful, and to walk alongside you as part of your mental health journey.
I am a UK-based psychotherapist with experience supporting adults and young people with a range of emotional and psychological difficulties. My work includes supporting individuals experiencing anxiety, stress, depression, trauma and abuse, as well as difficulties with motivation, self-esteem, and confidence.
Therapy can feel daunting, particularly if it is a new experience. I work at a pace chosen by you, ensuring that sessions feel containing and supportive. I believe you are the expert in your own lived experience, and therapy is a collaborative process where we work together, with you leading the way.
I also have experience supporting individuals with cultural and religious challenges, particularly those from South Asian Muslim backgrounds. This is an area where many people feel misunderstood or unsupported, especially when navigating identity, faith, and belonging within a modern Western context.
I believe in working with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I tailor the therapeutic work to your individual needs, recognising that no two experiences are the same. Seeking change takes courage, and I am here to support and empower you as you move towards greater understanding, balance, and wellbeing.
I currently offer weekly sessions. Most sessions are delivered remotely via video, telephone, or secure chat (email/text). I also offer face-to-face sessions in a Birmingham clinic on Tuesday afternoons.
Practice description
My practice is grounded in an integrative model, with an assimilative way of working. Person-centred therapy sits at the core of my approach, meaning the therapeutic relationship, empathy, and understanding are central to the work we do together. Alongside this, I draw on existential and attachment-based frameworks when clinically appropriate, allowing space to explore issues such as identity, meaning, relationships, and how early experiences may continue to influence present difficulties.
My primary focus is to offer therapy that feels supportive, containing, and responsive to your individual needs. I often work through a person-centred and compassion-focused lens, particularly when supporting clients who experience high levels of self-criticism, shame, low self-esteem, or emotional distress. This approach aims to help develop emotional safety, self-awareness, and a more compassionate relationship with yourself.
The client is always at the centre of my work. I view therapy as a collaborative process, where you lead and I support you in exploring your experiences, emotions, and patterns in a way that feels manageable and safe. I aim to provide a therapeutic space that is non-judgemental, reflective, and attuned, where difficult feelings can be explored without pressure or expectation.
I work flexibly and adapt my approach to suit each individual, recognising that no two therapeutic journeys are the same. Whether you are seeking therapy to process past experiences, manage current challenges, or gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your relationships, my intention is to support you in feeling heard, validated, and empowered within the therapeutic relationship.
My first session
During the first session, my main aim is to develop an understanding of what has brought you to therapy and the difficulties you are currently experiencing. This session offers you the space to begin sharing your experiences in a way that feels manageable, while also allowing me to carry out an initial assessment to better understand your needs and expectations from therapy.
As part of this assessment, we will explore what you are hoping to gain from therapy and begin to think together about possible therapeutic goals. We will also consider practical aspects such as time frames, the level of support you have outside of therapy, and whether you are currently taking any medication, as this can be helpful in understanding your overall wellbeing. This process allows me to gain a clearer picture of what is happening for you and whether the support I offer is the right fit for your needs.
The first session is also an opportunity for us to begin building a therapeutic relationship. I place importance on creating a space that feels safe, respectful, and collaborative from the outset. You are welcome to ask questions about the way I work, and we can talk openly about any concerns or uncertainties you may have about starting therapy.
By the end of the session, my intention is that you feel clearer about how therapy might support you and whether working together feels right. Establishing a strong therapeutic alliance is central to effective therapy, and the first session helps us both decide if this feels like a good foundation to build on together.
