About me and my therapy practice

My name is E-J and I am an accredited Integrative Psychotherapist & Counsellor (UKCP). I own & run E-J Psychotherapy & Counselling, which is a virtual psychotherapy and counselling practice. All sessions are conducted virtually using a secure online video conferencing platform.

I recognise that as human beings we are all wired for connection, so I take a relational approach in the way I work. I will support you to grow your awareness of what’s going on in your own body, your emotions and your thinking and the interplay between these distinct but interlocking aspects of you. I also look at the contexts you exist in, and how these have shaped and continue to shape you in the here and now. I offer my clients an opportunity to stop, really stop and to ask themselves questions - that might feel too big to ask yourself on your own or to burden your friends with - and then listen to the answer. I offer my clients a non-judgmental space to grow their awareness of themselves and how they show up in their world.

Therapy isn’t about me telling you what to do or advising you, however, I aim to support you through developing a good relationship in which you feel safe and secure, that allows you to explore, work through and understand the issues you bring to therapy. After an initial session to understand what your needs are and to see if we both feel that we can work together, we can plan further, weekly sessions.

I trained at the Metanoia Institute and have a MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy & Counselling. I am an Accredited Member of the UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy), a Registered Member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy) and a member BATN (Black and Asian Therapist Network).

Practice description

Does your life look great on the outside? To everyone else? On paper? Do you ever think that you know you should be happy, ok, fine and able to ‘just get on with it’? And yet….you just know in 'your bones’ you’re not ok, happy or fine…not really, despite what you may be presenting to the rest of the world.

You might see aspects of yourself below;

  • You have moments when you feel disconnected, lonely and alone, even when you’re surrounded by people
  • You dread not being busy and continuously on the go because the quiet allows you to feel things you can’t necessarily name but are uncomfortable, scary or painful
  • You have moments when you can’t not hear that voice in your head that you spend a lot of energy trying to ignore, that is telling you that you are not ‘ok’

If any aspect of the above describes you or resonates with you, then it might be helpful for us to talk. There may be some specific issues that you’ve identified that you’re struggling with. Or it might be that life is just feeling really hard, a constant struggle and you feel like you’re the only person who is not coping. Or it might be a combination of some specific issues which feel like a version of something you’ve been dealing throughout your life.

I don’t have any preconceived ideas of what’s bringing you into therapy. So detailed below are some of the common reasons/issues that clients have come into my practice with;

  • Work related stress, anxiety & depression
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Death, bereavement, grief, loss, endings
  • Anxiety
  • Identity issues relating to race/ethnicity
  • Numbing & addiction
  • Life stage changes & crisis

Obviously, this list isn’t exhaustive. But if anything here resonates and/or you really want to tackle the issues in your life in order to effect change, then please email me. I offer a complimentary 20 min telephone call if you would like to speak with me before booking an initial session.

My first session

Your initial session

I offer a 20 min complimentary, client enquiry phone call.

After the above call we can arrange an initial session, which is 90 min exploratory conversation. The purpose of this session is to help us think through why you want therapy, why now and what impact these reasons/issues are having on your life. It’s also to establish if therapy is appropriate for you at this time. It’s important to sense check that you feel we could work together and vice versa. How you feel in our relationship is important and if either one or both of us doesn’t feel as if we’ve clicked, where appropriate I’ll help you think about some possible next steps.

Ongoing therapy

If we decide that we are able and want to work together, we will agree a weekly day/time for your session. This may be at a different time to your initial assessment session. Your sessions will take place at the same time every week. We will agree if we are working in a time limited manner or open endedly, as this will shape the focus and feel of the work we do together. If the work is time limited, then we agree the number of sessions and work towards that. With open ended work we typically agree an initial number of therapy sessions. Then we can review how the therapy is going for us both and review the work done and decide what we want to do next.

Session details & fees

The initial assessment session is a discrete appointment. The cost for this session is £75. You will need to pay for this session up front and return your Client Agreement to confirm the booking of this session.

As part of the initial session we will agree a specific day/time for us to meet on a weekly basis. Each session is 50 mins and the cost for this will be £75.

If you miss a session the charge will remain £75 as I hold your session for you whilst we are working together.

In person therapy is offered in my practice office in the centre of Liverpool. Virtual sessions are conducted using a secure online video platform.
