About me and my therapy practice
I am a masters’ qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor drawing from the humanistic approaches to therapy, working with adults and couples, and also as a counselling supervisor.
With over 18 years of experience and several thousands of clinical hours practiced, I have a vast understanding of the very many problems and states of being that clients bring to the counselling room.
As a registered member of BACP (MBACP), I have worked as a counsellor and supervisor in the NHS, education, a sexual-health clinic, medical charities and extensively in private practice. I have managed a counselling service in a women’s centre and has also lectured in counselling and psychotherapy in 2 UK universities and delivered counselling training to groups of social workers and teachers.
Offering a safe non-judgemental and confidential space with a warm, supportive welcome for whatever clients wish to bring to work on and un-pack, I am ready to facilitate at each individuals’ pace - towards their personal goals for therapy out-comes.

Practice description
My way of working in my counselling practice is drawn from the person-centred approach to facilitating therapy. Blended with skills and techniques from additional humanistic approaches; this enables work tailored to the individual both in brief and longer-term counselling relationships.
The person-centred approach focuses upon each unique individual holistically – that is seeing and experiencing the whole person with mind, body and even their spirituality in mind.
This way of working brings the client to experience themselves non-judgementally - how they are as a person, and how they are in relationships. As a better understanding of self and others begins to emerge through a trusting, developing relationship with the counsellor, emotional development is made possible and the client can move forward in a journey towards increased self-confidence, clarity and greater happiness and fulfilment in life.
Working in this state of being means that very many life-difficulties brought to counselling can be worked with and new perspectives and possible solutions will emerge, with commitment from both counsellor and client. The commitment involves counsellor and client building a safe-non-judgemental, confidential, calm space in which to relax into a state where the client can focus, think, feel and talk freely.
My first session
I offer a free 35 minute introductory session by telephone or online (as your preference), where I can find out a little about you – your wishes and hopes for counselling and any goals you have for therapy.
I can tell you more about how I Work and we can then see if we feel we can work together. We could begin to arrange some sessions together, or you can go away and think about it – with no obligation to continue.
Here I will begin with an assessment of your needs for counselling and find out some personal information about you. We will discuss the limits to confidentiality and about how I Work to the ethical codes and practices according to BACP. You can voice any concerns and ask any questions and then we will begin the counselling and our session for that day and each other will be 50 minutes in duration. During the session we will also work-out a plan for what you wish to achieve during the therapy relationship, whether this is short-term or longer.
