About me and my therapy practice

“Sometimes the bravest and most important thing you can do is just show up.” -Brené Brown.

Making the decision to seek counselling is a hard step to take, instead we tend to ignore our feelings and hope they go away. But what if by ‘showing up’ we could understand our difficulties? In facing life’s challenges, such as relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, loss, stress or just feeling stuck, I believe the most significant factor in how much a client gains from counselling is the relationship between counsellor and client; the person to person connection. If you are experiencing thoughts and feelings that you are struggling with counselling can be a way of making sense of them. I offer a non-judgmental, warm, compassionate and confidential space where you can work through difficult feelings and experiences. Here you can explore what’s going on for you, discover meaningful insight about yourself and gain greater understanding of the difficulties you face.

Practice description

I am a BACP qualified integrative counsellor with experience of working with a range of issues. Working in an integrative way means that I use a number of approaches, or schools of thought when working with clients, as no two people are the same. Above all else I see you as an individual with individual needs.

We can explore what you can change and what you need to feel happier and more at home in yourself, your relationships and your day to day life. We might look at your patterns; how you think and feel about yourself and others, the things that you don't understand about yourself and your relationships. We can look back into the past to see how it may still be affecting you.

The counselling service that I offer is either face to face or on Zoom.

My first session

Before your first session we will have had an initial telephone consultation, with no charge, to see how we both feel about working together. Then I'll send you an assessment form that has a number of questions for you to have a look at before we meet.

Doing an assessment is important to support working safely together. Some of the questions are things like contact details, GP surgery and your address, and some are more to do with family, relationships and what you are finding difficult right now.

I send the assessment form before our 1st session so that I can get a better understanding of what is going on for you, the factors involved and gather some more background information before we meet. It's also a good chance for you to think about what you want to focus on. You can complete the parts you feel comfortable with and any others we can look at together in our session. You then send the form back to me before our 1st session with any questions that might have come up.

I have found doing the assessment this way means we can focus on what you want to talk about right from the beginning of our time together rather than spending that time filling out a form.

About me and my therapy practice

Making the decision to seek counselling is a hard step to take, instead we tend to ignore our feelings and hope they go away. But what if by ‘showing up’ we could understand our difficulties and discover ways to face life’s challenges, such as relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, loss, stress or just feeling stuck.

I believe the most significant factor in how much a client gains from counselling is the relationship between counsellor and client; the person to person connection.

Using multiple theories or modalities, such as Person Centred, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis, I can bring perspectives to help make sense of your difficulties.

Practice description

I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) as a qualified, integrative counsellor based in East Sussex, with experience of working with a range of issues. Above all else you are an individual with individual needs. I offer a warm, accepting relationship and through that connection can support you to express yourself, explore what’s going on for you and ultimately gain greater understanding and self awareness.

In accordance with the BACP guidelines, I am committed to continuous professional development through training courses, workshops, relevant updated reading, personal therapy and supervision.
