About me and my therapy practice
As a person-centred counsellor, I strive to provide a space where you can explore how life struggles are affecting you, where you can process and face your feelings and find your own way forward.
I integrate ideas from other approaches, such as CBT to explore the link between feelings, thoughts and actions, so you can make sense of what is happening inside, be more aware of it and be able to confront it constructively, or ACT to confront your challenges with active acceptance, finding a way to manage your thoughts and commit to your values.
I will foster a confidential space where you are free and not judged. I will walk with you through a path of self-awareness and understanding, adapting the session to your needs and wishes.
I have worked with people in need of emotional support through a helpline. I have supported individuals in educational settings and community, face-to-face and online, in dealing with mental health struggles. I believe everyone has the potential to thrive, my aim is to help you find that potential.
I enjoy being present with activities that make me feel connected to my community. I sing in choirs, play the clarinet and dance. I do sailing in the river Tay with folk from the sailing club. I would often encourage people to find activities that make them feel connected and present, whatever this might be. Everybody is different and unique.
Practice description
My sessions are 50 minutes long and will focus on your mental wellbeing through exploration and emotional insight. You will decide how you want sessions to support you and where you want to walk towards. I will support you in drawing the path into that direction. You might not know what you expect and that is natural, I will help you to explore it and get to understand what you need so sessions are tailored to your needs.
In addition to online appointments, I also offer in-person sessions from a central location in Dundee, at Dundee Therapy Rooms (https://www.dundeetherapyrooms.co.uk).
An initial session is offered for £35, where you have a chance to get to know me and my approach so you can decide whether I am the right therapist for you.
Any single session after the initial one is charged at full price, £50.
A package of 4 sessions (1 month) is also available for £160.
My first session
During our first session, I will introduce myself and will allow you to talk about yourself and your difficulties. My aim is to understand your situation and allow you to experience what is it like to work with me. Together we will assess how sessions with me could be helpful.
I might ask questions to clarify and to promote self-exploration. I might make observations based on what you are telling me. Finally, we might consider setting therapeutic goals if that works for you.
