About me and my therapy practice

My approach to helping my clients with therapy and counselling services, is founded on the principle of Integrative Therapy.

This means choosing the practices from different therapeutic modalities best suited to a client’s particular needs and wants. By tailoring the therapy to the individual, I hope to deliver the most meaningful outcomes.

Integrative Therapy is not limited to a particular methodology and instead allows me to draw on different techniques as they are required. I work with a number of forms of therapy and personalise the approach to meet the types of challenges you may be facing.

This way of working suggests that there is no single method that is superior for each and every situation. It also means that differing theories that do not necessarily agree with one another can still be effective when combined, to benefit people with mental health concerns.

It is essential to recognise that while Integrative Therapy is flexible, that does not mean that it is entirely without structure. Instead, I will work with you to decide on the most beneficial techniques for a specific purpose and then integrate these approaches into a cohesive therapeutic experience.

Practice description

Perhaps you're down or anxious - maybe you're unsure about the future of a relationship, or just feel that you aren't living the life you were meant to lead. Whatever your needs may be, I am here to offer support. Therapy is a process of growth and self-discovery, and in my sessions, I promote behavioural transformation by encouraging a positive outlook and the adoption of new attitudes and reactions. I have the tools and professional experience to help you get back on track.

My journey into Counselling and Psychotherapy began many years ago as an Emotional Literacy Support Advisor (ELSA) and Counselling Skills User working with young people. In 2019, and after many years of further study, I felt that the time was right for me to embark on my own private practice.

My time working with young children and their families, along with raising my own children has provided me with a wealth of life experiences. It is these experiences which allow me to offer the most important qualities of counselling, which I believe are kindness, understanding, patience, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach.

I have trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Gestalt, along with Humanistic and Person-Centred Counselling. Each of these modalities allow me to offer a personalised service which is designed to meet my client’s needs.

Alongside my studies and work I have volunteered for a bereavement charity and a local college.

Although life can be busy, I recognise the importance of taking time for myself, to relax and recharge my batteries. I enjoy walking with the dogs in the forest, keeping fit with yoga as well as practising meditation and mindfulness.

My first session

On the day of our first meeting, I will welcome you into my therapy room and check that you are comfortable. I understand that for many people this may be their first experience of therapy, and they may not know what to expect, and it is completely natural to feel a little anxious.

Once I have provided you with details of our Working Agreement, I will check that everything is clear and ask if you have any questions, which I always stress can be asked at any time during our work together.

I will also explain about what happens to any information I ask you for. It is very important that as a client you feel 100% confident that the information you share with me is held in confidence and that your details are safe and secure and can never identify you.

Any notes that are taken during our session are for me so that I can explore and read literature and research that will help me to further support you.

During our sessions the time and space are entirely yours to discuss what is on your mind. I will always provide you with Unconditional Positive Regard (UPR). This means that regardless of the information you share with me, my regard for you will never wain.

There is no expectation placed on you; other than to encourage you to be congruent and true to yourself. Honesty and openness will allow you to achieve the greatest clarity and get the most out of your counselling sessions.

For many, counselling provides the opportunity to talk about matters that are not possible to talk to others about. Matters that weigh heavily on your mind and create a barrier for you enjoying your life and getting the most out of it. To be listened to without judgement, criticism, or advice, allows us to truly understand ourselves and find the answers we are looking for.

If there is anything further you would like to know regarding my work, please do not hesitate to contact me. I offer a free 20-minute telephone consultation which can be booked on my website www.thepinestherapy.co.uk

My first session

On the day of our first meeting, I will welcome you into my therapy room and check that you are comfortable. I understand that for many this may be their first experience of therapy, and they may not know what to expect, and it is completely natural to feel a little anxious.

I will use the first few minutes of the session to explain my contract, the details that I share with you form the basis of our Working Agreement. I will provide you with a brief overview of my membership with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapists and the role that plays in our therapy sessions.

Once I have given you with details of my contract, I will check that everything is clear and ask if there are any questions, which I always stress can be asked at any time during our work together.

Before we start, and if I have not done so already, I will make a note of some personal details, for example the name and number of your emergency contact.

I will also explain about what happens to any information I ask you for and what I do with it, where it is stored, and how long it is stored for. It is very important that as a client you feel 100% confident that the information you share with me is held in confidence and that your details are safe and secure and can never identify you.

To allow me to fully appreciate how I can best support you I will carry out an assessment, this ensures that I am aware of any additional support or medication you are receiving. Any notes that are taken during our session are for me so that I can further support you.

There is no pressure from myself, and I will always provide you with Unconditional Positive Regard (UPR). This means that regardless of the information you share with me, my regard for you will never wain.

I place no expectation on you; other than to encourage you to be congruent and true to yourself. Honesty and openness will allow you to achieve the greatest clarity and get the most out of your counselling sessions.
