About me and my therapy practice

I am an Adlerian counsellor, available to work with you remotely, wherever you may be in the UK, online or over the phone.

Adlerian therapy is a positive and active approach to life's difficulties, where client and therapist collaborate. We often look back into the past but only as a means of understanding how to move forward. Shifts in thinking about how to tackle your concerns can happen at your pace.

With a varied background in languages and communication, sales, well-being and community work, I have good networks both in my home area and throughout the UK. I can highlight organisations providing support and encouragement for when you are out in the world....and, crucially, once therapy has ended.

Once therapy has begun and you feel comfortable to share with me what has been happening for you, we can work out what, or who, has influenced your life, thoughts and feelings. We can gently examine the principle ideas and patterns formed as a result and which have led you through life, leading to more helpful ways of thinking and wider change.

Taking the step into therapy could mean that you are the change-maker in your family, challenging family patterns, norms and behaviours that have remained unchallenged, perhaps for years - or even generations.

You may feel it is time to share some of your most private and troubling feelings, into which misplaced shame or guilt may be creeping.....for example, feeling little for your parents, regret around having children, the bewildering difficulties of mid-life and menopause, the dissonance between loving someone and the stress of being their carer.

Therapy can help us not to take so much on ourselves, recognising when we can let go of what is "someone else's stuff". Reclaiming ourselves from shame and blame can be powerful and you and I will work on identifying all your strengths.....even if you are not feeling strong and resilient. It takes courage to begin therapy so be kind to yourself and celebrate your first step.

Practice description

I will respond to your enquiry within 48 hours and can arrange to meet with you online (Zoom or WhatsApp video or audio call) or through a plain telephone call, wherever you may be in the UK.

As a compassionate and thoughtful Adlerian therapist, I will respect your life experiences and whatever you choose to share. I can help you look at your early years so as to understand how you learnt to live - but you hold the key to any exploration and there will be no pressure.

Psycho-education is a frequent feature in my sessions and from time to time I will offer reading links or videos relevant to our discussions; this can often lead to increased insight, as well as a sense of not being alone. If something has been researched and written about, you can be pretty sure you belong to a community of people who have experienced something similar.

My first session

I offer a free 15 minute consultation prior to us beginning our work. You will be able to highlight what is happening for you at the moment and what you feel are your presenting issues.

At this point, we can also identify the outcomes you would like from therapy and whether we feel a good therapeutic rapport can develop between us - it is vital for you to feel comfortable as you embark on this important journey.
