About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced psychotherapist with over 25 years of working with children, young people, adults and families, including extensive experience within the NHS. My approach is primarily informed by EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) and is tailored to the individual needs of each client, drawing on a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches to promote meaningful and lasting change.

Alongside EMDR, I integrate elements of psychotherapy, counselling, hypnotherapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) where appropriate. This flexible and personalised approach enables me to support clients with a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties, helping them to develop new perspectives, strengthen coping strategies and achieve their therapeutic goals.

I have extensive experience working with trauma, including single-incident and complex trauma, as well as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, bereavement, stress, emotional dysregulation, relationship difficulties, phobias and other mental health concerns. My focus is on creating a safe, supportive and collaborative therapeutic relationship where clients feel understood and empowered to move forward.

Many clients report positive outcomes within a relatively short period of time, particularly when using EMDR and other targeted interventions. While therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process, I aim to help clients experience meaningful improvements as efficiently as possible while working at a pace that feels safe and manageable.

I predominantly offer face-to-face appointments, as I believe this provides the strongest therapeutic connection for many individuals. However, telephone counselling may be considered where appropriate and beneficial to the client's circumstances.

My aim is to help people overcome emotional barriers, process difficult experiences, build resilience and create lasting positive change in their lives.

Practice description

I am an experienced psychotherapist with experience of supporting young people and adults, including extensive experience working within the NHS. I offer a warm, non-judgemental and collaborative approach, creating a safe space where you can explore difficulties, make sense of your experiences and move towards positive change.

My primary therapeutic modality is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) which I integrate with psychotherapy, counselling, hypnotherapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). This allows me to tailor therapy to your individual needs rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach.

I have extensive experience helping people who have experienced trauma, including childhood adversity, relational trauma and distressing life events. I also support clients with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, stress, emotional regulation difficulties, bereavement, relationship issues, phobias and a range of other emotional and mental health challenges.

My aim is to help clients understand the difficulties they are experiencing, develop effective coping strategies and process experiences that may be keeping them stuck. Many clients report significant improvements within a relatively short period of time, particularly when using EMDR and other focused therapeutic interventions.

I predominantly work face-to-face, as many clients find this offers the strongest therapeutic connection. Telephone sessions may also be considered where appropriate.

Seeking support can feel like a big step, and I strive to provide a welcoming, compassionate and professional environment where you can feel heard, understood and supported throughout your therapeutic journey.

My first session

Prior to the strat of your therapeutic journey, I offer a free 20-minute consultation. This gives us an opportunity to discuss what has brought you to therapy, answer any questions you may have and determine whether I am the right therapist to support you.

If we decide to work together, we will arrange your first full session. During this appointment, I will gather more detailed information about your current difficulties, relevant life experiences, personal strengths and the outcomes you hope to achieve through therapy. This assessment process helps me develop a thorough understanding of your needs and ensures that any support offered is tailored specifically to you.

The first session is also an opportunity for you to talk openly about the challenges you are experiencing in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment. There is no pressure to share more than you feel comfortable with, and we will work at a pace that feels right for you.

Together, we will identify the areas you would like to focus on and agree a clear therapeutic contract outlining our work together, including your goals, expectations and preferred approach. As EMDR is my primary modality, we may begin discussing potential targets for therapy where appropriate, although the initial focus is often on understanding your experiences and building a strong therapeutic foundation.

I draw upon EMDR, psychotherapy, counselling, hypnotherapy, DBT and NLP techniques, enabling me to tailor therapy to your individual circumstances. This means that your treatment plan will be adapted to suit your unique needs, circumstances and goals rather than following a standardised approach.

By the end of the session, you should have a clearer understanding of the therapeutic process, what our future work together may involve, and the next steps towards achieving meaningful and lasting change. My aim is for you to leave feeling heard, understood and hopeful about the journey ahead.
