I currently have weekday daytime availability only.

If you are interested in working with me, please feel free to get in touch via email, text or voicemail. I will then be back in touch to arrange a convenient time for us to have an informal, 20-30 minute, free, initial telephone or online session. Here we can discuss mutual availability, what you are looking for, and what I can offer.  From there we can discuss next steps.

It is so common for people to feel that their concern is not 'enough' for counselling.  Please know that it is always enough.

About me and my therapy practice

Welcome - I'm Jo (she/her). No doubt you are scrolling through directories facing the daunting task of finding the 'right' therapist for you. Often the best way to decide this is by having a conversation. So please feel free to contact me via the above details for a free, no obligation first discussion. In the meantime, I will try to give you an idea of how I work.

I am a person-centred counsellor which means I work hard to understand your unique experience and what feels difficult, from your perspective. From there we can work together to make sense of your experience at a pace that feels comfortable to you.  In doing so, in a non-judgemental space, and without pressure or expectation, often you will find that your concern changes shape, as you discover new perspectives and ways of being.  It may be that you have a specific concern, or perhaps you feel less clear about it but know that things are not feeling 'ok'. Either way, counselling offers the confidential space to unpick what you are experiencing at your own pace.

I feel passionately that you experience from me, an understanding environment free of judgement and full of empathy, as this is at the root of supporting you in being able to move forward with what feels painful. It is in building a trusting, collaborative relationship between us that you can feel the safety necessary to explore your concerns fully. Feeling able to bring your 'full self' to counselling will support you to move forward in a more meaningful way.

Sometimes it can feel hard to find the words to express your experience, so I also offer other ways of working e.g. using images, objects, colour or art materials but this is only if this feels comfortable to you.

I will never ask you to explore something you do not feel ready to - we will always work at your pace. The counselling journey is an organic, collaborative process, unique each time. I look forward to meeting you and beginning our counselling journey together.

Practice description

I am a fully qualified and insured, registered member of the BACP and hold an enhanced DBS certificate as well as registration with the Information Commissioner's Office, which ensures that I store any information I hold about you securely and confidentially.

I work with adults and hold an additional qualification to work with children and young people from the age of 8. As such, I have experience across a broad range of issues, ages and life transitions (the list below is not exhaustive). I also have experience working with neurodivergent clients and have additional training for working with autism. My practice is neuro affirming and I am keen to work with you to make any adaptations to sessions, in order that you can feel comfortable and get the most out of your counselling.

I work in private practice as well as for a local counselling charity.  I am also a counselling tutor with West Sussex Counselling Training.

I offer face to face sessions in Petersfield and can also offer online or telephone sessions. It is sometimes possible for me to offer sessions in Petworth as well.

My first session

Following our free, initial telephone or online session, our first full session is most importantly a chance to begin getting to know each other and to get a deeper understanding of what brings you to counselling. As well as this, there will be a small amount of paperwork to go through so we can agree a way of working together and go through relevant policies and procedures before we begin. It is also a chance for you to ask any further questions you may have about having counselling with me.
