About me and my therapy practice
I'm a qualified and experienced Counsellor based in Surrey, with a Masters's degree in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I recognise that life can throw us unexpected challenges and the impact of these may be immediately felt, but they could also crop up many months or years later. Our past experiences can intertwine with our family dynamics and current lifestyle to shape our perception of emotions and the situations we find ourselves in. These emotions can, at times, feel confusing and hard to put into words. Sometimes seeping out into other areas such as impacting general wellbeing and how we interact with others. At times this can be felt through Depression, Stress and/or Anxiety. Or perhaps it may be felt in other ways such as not being able to sleep or finding things, we previously enjoyed, more challenging and less enjoyable.
My background:
I have experience in a variety of different mental health settings over the last 10+ years, ranging from supporting individuals one to one and in groups, before moving onto senior management. I draw upon my experience of promoting mental health and wellbeing in both the voluntary sector and with emergency services personnel, to provide a safe space, informed by a combination of real life experiences, my formal training and regular CPD.
In 2021 I received the National Mental Health and Wellbeing Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Mental Health Sector:
"Annalise has made a profound difference to a number of people over a number of years, the judges felt that the contribution she had made to others through her work was significant and deserved recognition." R. Curtis 2021, Chair of the National Mental Health and Wellbeing Awards.
Currently, alongside my private practice I am Deputy CEO of a local Mental Health Charity. This experience has helped me recognise the benefits of a calm and supportive space to process emotions, help you feel more grounded and gain trust in yourself and your experience.
Practice description
I work with adults aged 18+ and my approach is non-judgemental and relational, gradually building trust and safety. I can be described as a humanistic, integrative therapist working with a person-centred base drawing upon theories on attachment, our somatic experience and using CBT tools and techniques when appropriate to ensure sessions are tailored to you.
Drawing upon variety of different therapeutic approaches to ensure sessions are tailored to you as an individual, I focus on helping increase your understanding of your emotions and reactions to life events. Through developing this insight we can work towards an increased sense of clarity around yourself, your relationships and your ways of coping.
Sessions take place weekly, usually at the same time, and can be on line via Zoom or I have some availability in person.
My first session
Prior to our first session we will have a 20 minute introductory call. This is:
- To enable us the chance to chat about the support you feel you need.
- To answer any questions you may have about how we might work together.
- To ascertain whether I may bee the right person to work with you at this point in time.
Following on from this if we decide to work together our first session will mostly be continuing to get to know you and your current situation to build a foundation of safety upon which to start our work.
