About me and my therapy practice
Therapy and creative practice for when life hasn't gone to plan.
I'm Bella Cranmore, a BACP and UKCP registered integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor in Brighton & Hove and online worldwide. I work with individuals and couples who are carrying the gap between the life they expected and the life they have.
You did the things you were supposed to do, and somewhere along the way life wrote a different story. The family that didn't arrive. A diagnosis. A childhood that shouldn't have happened the way it did. A parent or partner who now needs your care. A midlife morning when you didn't quite recognise your own life.
Who I work with:
• When the family you hoped for didn't arrive: childlessness not by choice, infertility and fertility treatment (during, between rounds and after stopping), miscarriage, baby loss and infant loss
• When the body or the future changes the plan: chronic illness, cancer, hidden and visible disability, caring for parents or partners, midlife and menopause
• When childhood didn't go to plan: boarding school survivors, growing up around addiction (adult children of alcoholics and addicts, codependency), abandonment and early loss
Grief runs through all of this, including the kind that gets no formal acknowledgement or public permission. I won't try to talk you out of it or rush you through it.
Practice description
How I work
My approach is to help you grieve the life you planned, tend the life you have, and create the life that's still possible.
I draw on depth psychotherapy, somatic practice, and creative and nature-based methods. Depending on what suits you, that might include letter writing, drawing, working with objects and imagery, or walking sessions outdoors in Brighton & Hove. I also see each person in their wider context of family, culture, institutions and the natural world, rather than as a private malfunction.
I trained in integrative transpersonal counselling at Re-Vision, with specialist training in pregnancy and infant loss, couples work, and work with boarding school survivors (with Nick Duffell). I also facilitate Artist's Way groups, and creative practice is part of how I understand change.
What to expect
This is quiet, honest, sometimes demanding work. It suits adults in established lives, often outwardly capable, who are ready to look clearly at what has been lost and are curious, even faintly, about what might still be made. Sessions are weekly, and I may suggest small practices between them.
Insurance Cover
I am a registered health care provider with WPA and BUPA health insurance.
My first session
Getting started
I offer a 20-minute introductory call, for us both to sense whether this is the right work at the right time.
If you decide to go ahead, the first full introductory session will include an assessment which can have therapeutic value in itself. Beforehand, I will send you an optional questionnaire exploring why you are looking for therapy now, your history and background, and what your hopes are for the work.
At the end of this session, we can then agree and discuss if it feels appropriate to work together ongoingly.
