About me and my therapy practice

Hello, my name is Kim Brown and I am proud and feel very privileged to work within the principles of Person-centred counselling and Psychotherapy. I strive to provide a safe, inclusive, non-judgemental and confidential space for both individuals and couples, supporting them to work through difficulties that are getting in the way of their day-to-day lives and helping them move forward to their desired outcome.

I work in private practice but also as an Associate Counsellor with the UHI Inverness College and as a volunteer with Counselling Care Skye & Lochalsh. I am a member of both BACP and COSCA.

I also use Peter Hess Sound Massage as an optional part of my sessions in my private counselling practice, using the Peter Hess therapy-grade Singing Bowls to provide a safe and calming space while working with the issues clients bring. I am the only Peter Hess Sound Massage Practitioner in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland and the only counsellor in the Highlands and Islands to offer this beautiful therapeutic blend of Person Centred Counselling and Peter Hess Sound Massage Therapy. The bowls are used during the 1.5hr sessions to promote a feeling of safety and calm and to help relax the client at the end of a session before they rejoin the outside world if there has been any difficult or upsetting part of the session. The bowls can also be used by a client at any point during a session where the client may feel they may want the added support of the sounds and vibrations.

Practice description

In my practice, I work with both individuals and relationships that need support and help moving forward to work through what is troubling them. I offer a safe and inclusive space, free from opinion and judgment. My focus is instead on the client and their individual experiences and emotions and I am passionate about supporting and empowering my client/clients to find their path and way forward, rather than using a one size fits all approach... I relish the individuality of my clients and getting to know who they are and supporting their reflections and any discoveries or awareness that may come forward in our time together.

There is no one who knows what is best for you better than yourself! Sometimes it just needs a space that is yours, offering empathic support and understanding of your world and the experiences within it, to find out what that looks and feels like for you.

Also, the use of the beautiful Peter Hess Sound Massage to support sessions adds another optional and special therapeutic and calming element to your session that you cannot get from any other counsellor in the Highlands and Islands.

My first session

I offer a free initial introduction appointment (approx 20-30 mins) where you can speak with me with no obligation to book sessions, to meet each other and provide a chance for you decide whether I am someone you feel comfortable with and wish to continue forward into starting sessions with.

I want all clients to feel as much in control of their counselling experience as possible and feel a valued and respected equal in the process. It is important to me in starting that process, to give any prospective clients the opportunity for an initial conversation that gives them the choice of continuing with me or not.
