About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I'm Karen

Perhaps you spend a lot of time overthinking, doubting yourself or worrying about what others think. You may find it difficult to say no, put others first or feel responsible for keeping everyone happy. On the outside, you might appear to be coping, while inside you feel anxious, overwhelmed or disconnected from yourself.

You may be struggling with a difficult relationship, a painful experience or the lasting effects of past trauma. Perhaps you've experienced emotional abuse or coercive control, or find yourself questioning your judgement and struggling to trust yourself.

Sometimes our present difficulties have roots in earlier experiences and relationships. You may wonder why certain situations affect you so deeply or why familiar patterns keep repeating.

You don't have to make sense of everything on your own.

I offer a warm, calm and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about what's happening in your life. You don't need to have all the answers or know where to begin.

Together, we can explore your experiences and feelings, helping you understand yourself more deeply, recognise unhelpful patterns and develop greater self-compassion. This isn't about blaming the past, but making sense of your experiences and finding new ways of relating to yourself and others.

My approach is collaborative and led by you. We work at a pace that feels manageable, with care and respect for your individual needs.

Counselling can help you reconnect with yourself, rebuild trust in your own judgement and develop greater confidence in your decisions and boundaries.

I offer short and longer-term counselling for adults, face-to-face in Potton, Bedfordshire, as well as online and by telephone.

If something here feels familiar, you're welcome to get in touch to explore whether working together might feel right for you.

Practice description

My Approach

I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor and an Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP Accred). I also hold a CPCAB Level 5 Diploma in Somatic Trauma Therapy.

I draw on person-centred, psychodynamic and somatic approaches, tailoring our work to you rather than following a one-size fits all model. I believe you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to offer understanding and support as we explore what matters to you.

My person-centred approach means our sessions are guided by your experiences, feelings and needs. My psychodynamic approach helps us explore how earlier experiences and relationships may influence how you feel about yourself, relate to others and respond to situations today.

My somatic trauma training also informs my work. Difficult experiences can affect us emotionally and physically, leaving us feeling overwhelmed, constantly on edge or disconnected. Where helpful, we can gently explore these responses and develop greater awareness of what you need to feel more grounded.

I have a particular interest in anxiety and overthinking, people-pleasing, boundaries, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, and the lasting effects of childhood experiences and trauma. This includes the emotional impact of difficult relationships, emotional abuse and coercive control. I am also interested in supporting people experiencing post-traumatic stress and complex PTSD.

We will work collaboratively and at a pace that feels manageable for you. My aim is to help you make sense of your experiences, strengthen your relationship with yourself and develop greater self-understanding, confidence and trust in your own judgement.

My first session

Getting in touch with a counsellor can feel like a big step, particularly if you're not used to talking about your own feelings or experiences.

When you contact me, we can arrange an initial session to explore what has brought you to counselling and what you would like support with. You don't need to prepare anything or know exactly what to say. We can take things gently and begin wherever feels right for you.

The first session is also an opportunity for you to get a sense of me and how I work, and to consider whether you feel comfortable working together. There is no obligation to continue beyond that session.

Fees

I offer 50-minute counselling sessions at £55 per session.

Sessions are available face-to-face in Potton, Nr Sandy, Bedfordshire, as well as online and by telephone.

Sessions usually take place weekly or fortnightly, at a regular time where possible, to provide consistency and support throughout the counselling process.

If you have any questions about counselling, fees or availability, you're welcome to get in touch.
