My first session
I offer a free telephone or Zoom consultation to potential clients, during which we will discuss the requirements and how I might help and agree a time and place to meet and the fee.
My normal sessions are one hour long but I recommend allowing longer for a first session as there is always a lot to cover. I generally integrate a formal assessment into the first session as well as setting goals and boundaries for our ongoing work together.

About me and my therapy practice
I place a lot of emphasis on getting to know and understand each of my clients and building up a very strong therapeutic relationship. We discuss what exactly makes them tick and, conversely, what are their triggers. We agree goals and then the real work begins. Sometimes this might only need a small number of sessions, sometimes the relationship is long term. The actual work varies from client to client, as no two clients are the same, but my focus is always on helping the client to achieve their goals and to leave our sessions feeling much better about themselves and their issues than they did before our work began.
Practice description
I have a dedicated counselling room which is very calming and comfortable, with water and the obligatory tissues on tap. I am frequently told I am exceptionally easy to talk to, helping clients to quickly feel at ease. My practice is integrative which means I draw from and bring in a wide variety of different counselling theories and techniques, depending on the needs of each individual client. Often it's about spotting links and patterns between events, thoughts and behaviours and addressing these in an open and honest way, without judgment. Although the work and the issues we are discussing can sometimes be very painful and upsetting, I know that all my clients get huge value from and largely enjoy our sessions and the wonderful relationship that we create between us.
My first session
I ask new clients to complete a form before the session which helps to focus our work. The first session is all about getting to know one another and I often include some type of formal assessment, which clarifies exactly how their issues are affecting them and provides a benchmark against which we can measure their future progress. First sessions tend to last longer than an hour but I don't charge any extra.
