About me and my therapy practice

Coming to therapy might be a very scary and daunting thing to do, you may feel like you ‘shouldn’t’ need therapy.

Perhaps you don’t understand why you feel so anxious.

Difficult feelings and thoughts make daily life hard and seem to be getting worse. Maybe you don’t feel normal, as though everyone else copes better with life somehow. You might want to understand what is going on, or find healthy ways to cope with your feelings and thoughts. Perhaps you suspect that you might have ADHD or already have a diagnosis and feel lost or overwhelmed.

Maybe you have been diagnosed with an unexpected health condition.

When life flips you upside down with an unexpected health diagnosis it can feel as though the bottom has fallen out of your world. Navigating this new version of yourself can be frightening and full of grief for the old, healthy you. It may feel impossible to reflect and understand what has happened. You may be struggling with the demands of your life at home or at work.

Or perhaps you have lost someone close to you.

Sometimes grief creeps up on us, we know it is there but we want our life to continue on as before. Other times sadness slaps us hard in the face, there is no escape. You may feel anxious, panicky, depressed, in pain or alone. Perhaps there’s simply been no time or space for you to process what has happened. What has happened feels too sore to touch and yet you know it impacts you every day.

Maybe you feel depressed.

Sometimes we can feel wrong, bad or not good enough. Perhaps your internal voice catastrophises everything leaving you feeling worthless, hopeless and numb. Constantly comparing yourself to others can be debilitating. Navigating this struggle might leave you feeling low in motivation, lost and stuck on a daily basis. Maybe you’d like to move on from these thoughts and feelings. Perhaps you’d like to find meaning in life, understand yourself more or put the past to rest.

Practice description

What you can expect

I offer weekly, face to face and online therapy sessions. Each session is 50 minutes long.

I love working long term with clients. For me this means working with you for six months or longer. This is because I enjoy the deeper work that can occur and I believe that long-term work supports lasting change.

My approach

I offer a supportive, warm and safe way to gently explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours in order for you to become more stable and aware of your patterns. I can offer you a safe space to welcome all of your parts, however mad, bad or sad they might seem. My approach will be tailored to you, to meet your unique situation and way of being.

How I work with you depends on what you bring

If you are anxious we would work at your pace. We may explore grounding and soothing techniques to support your nervous system. We may look to understand your patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviours, leading to more internal awareness and choice.

If you are grieving I may support you to gently explore how you have been impacted. I will offer a warm and non-judgemental presence in which you can be heard and seen.

If you have had a health diagnosis our work could focus on supporting you to have the space to process what has happened and to start piecing your life back together.

If you are feeling depressed I could work to provide a safe space where your thoughts and feelings are explored gently. I listen and ask questions to support you to be curious as to what is happening for you. I bring you to the sensations and feelings in your body in order to alleviate the feeling of depression.

I'm influenced by

Somatic body-based therapy, Counselling for Depression work, Transactional Analysis, grief models such as Kubler - Ross, inner child work, creative work and Babette Rothschild’s Trauma work.

My first session

Introductory call

I offer a 15-minute free introductory telephone call. This provides an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have and it will help us establish if the way I work is right for you.

Following this call there is no obligation to have therapy with me.

What are the next steps?

If you are interested to see if you’d like to start therapy with me email or call me. Please include when you are free to talk in the message.

I will reply to you within 48 hours to invite you to have a free 15 minute introductory phone call.

After the introductory phone call we can decide if we can work together.

I will then confirm by email the time and date of your first session.

I then email you your starting therapy pack which you can read and sign in advance of your first session if you wish. We will go through this together in your first session. I will also send you payment details and links to the online platform if online and detailed directions if face to face.

Your first session

In your first session I'll be asking you lots of questions to understand more about you and how I can support you best. Clients often report that answering these questions can feel like a relief. It is likely that counselling and psychotherapy will start in the second session.

Where are the in-person sessions?

The in person sessions are in Central Newcastle, above Pani’s restaurant on Broad Street. The address is: 61-65 High Bridge, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 6BX.

You can access Pani’s by Metro, by bus, by train and by bike easily. Parking in central Newcastle is available, however you have to pay.
