About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Emily -
I’m a qualified child and adolescent counsellor registered with and accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
I trained at the Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education (IATE) in 2016 and, in the years since, I have supported children, teenagers and parents/carers both as a freelance school counsellor and as a manager of counselling services in schools with the leading children’s mental health charity, Place2Be.
I also work as a trainer with Place2Be, delivering a variety of courses and supporting students in their studies in the field of child and adolescent counselling.
I bring a warm and empathic approach to my work with young people, drawing on person-centred counselling skills, core qualities of active listening, empathy, and non-judgement, as well as using the creative arts and play, to build trust and connection with the young people I work with.
I am also committed to bringing this same warmth, empathy and non-judgment to my communication with parents and carers. If you are here it is likely you are worried about someone you love and I know how hard this can be.
My experience so far has deepened my belief in the healing power of a safe space where young people can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences at their own pace.
I’m passionate about helping children and young people develop a stronger sense of self and discover their true voice—enabling them to live the happier and more fulfilled life they deserve to live.
Practice description
At the moment, my practice is exclusively online. I have plans to extend this in the near future to outdoor therapy/walk and talk therapy. This would be in the SE London area, within the boroughs of Greenwich and Lewisham.
The first step, whether you are a parent/carer looking for support for a young person, or a young person yourself, is to get in touch and book a free 15 minute consultation with me so we can both find out a bit more and see if working with me feels like the right fit.
You can do this is by emailing emily@truevoicetherapy.org or by completing the enquiry form on my website (www.truevoicetherapy.org)
Following this, I will arrange an assessment session and gather important information so I can tailor an intervention to the unique needs of each young person.
You can also refer to the FAQs page for more information.
My first session
The assessment stage is an essential part of the process and allows me to find out more so I can provide a more effective service.
The assessment session is also carried out online, or over the phone, with a parent or carer who can provide important background information.
This is charged at £65 for an hour.
