About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified and registered psychotherapist and counsellor - trained in Singapore, the UK (London) and Australian Universities. Having lived in Singapore for about 20 years but also over the years in Switzerland, India and the UK, I have broad and deep knowledge of both Asian culture/dynamics and western families relevant to expats in this region. I work with clients across the world - individuals (13+), couples and families, both face to face and online.

I have been certified to work with different modalities including Couples Therapy, Family Therapy, CBT, CTRT, TA, Psychodynamic Therapy, Existential Therapy, Humanistic Therapies and Solutions Focused Therapy among others. I am an integrative psychotherapist and counsellor, blending different couples therapy, individual therapy and family therapy modalities for work with couples and families.

I undergo continual professional development and supervision as required by the many global professional associations that I am associated with.

Practice description

Choosing a therapist is a vital step toward personal growth. At Balanced Life Psychotherapy & Counselling, I offer a safe, non-judgmental space where you are truly heard. My philosophy is rooted in the belief that everyone possesses the resilience to find equilibrium in an overwhelming world.

What to Expect

Our work is a collaborative partnership. We begin with an exploratory session to understand the "landscape" of your life—your history, challenges, and strengths. Unlike a casual conversation, our meetings are purposeful. We identify clear goals—be it managing acute anxiety, repairing a marriage, or navigating a career transition—to create a roadmap for your progress.

An Integrative Approach

I provide a treatment plan tailored specifically to you, drawing from diverse evidence-based modalities:

CBT & EMDR: For challenging distressing thoughts and processing trauma.

The Gottman Method (Levels 1 & 2): Research-based couples therapy to rebuild intimacy and manage conflict.

Transactional Analysis & Psychodynamic Therapy: To explore identity and the deeper roots of behaviors.

I support teens and families navigating modern challenges through a systemic lens. Additionally, my corporate background and MBA allow me to offer mental health support and guidance for issues like workplace burnout and leadership dynamics in high-pressure environments.

Global Perspective & Ethics

Having lived in Singapore for 20 years, as well as the UK, Switzerland, and India, I bring a unique "global-local" perspective. I deeply understand the expat experience and multicultural dynamics. I am a registered member of the BACP (UK), SAC (Singapore), and USATAA, adhering to the highest ethical and confidentiality standards.

Your Journey

I invite you to start with a 30-minute online session to ensure you feel comfortable with my approach.

My first session

Stepping into your first therapy session can feel like a mix of profound relief and "first-day-of-school" jitters. At my practice, my goal is to replace that anxiety with a sense of grounded calm from the moment we connect.

The Atmosphere: A Safe Harbor

Whether you are visiting one of my Singapore offices or joining via a secure video link, the first thing you’ll notice is the intentionality of the space.

The Flow: Not an Interrogation, but an Exploration

We usually begin with the "Why now?" This isn't an interrogation; it's a collaborative exploration.

Sharing Your Story: You’ll have the floor to share what has brought you here. I listen not just to the challenges, but to the nuances of your history and your environment.

Understanding the "Landscape": We look at your life holistically. If you're an expat, we might discuss the "global-local" pressures you face. If you're a professional, we might touch on the high-stakes dynamics of your workplace.

Identifying Strengths: I am interested in what is still working in your life, as those strengths are the tools we will use to build your resilience.

The Outcome: Leaving with a Roadmap

By the end of our first meeting, the goal is for you to feel more than just "heard." You should leave with a tangible sense of direction. We will:

Define clear, achievable goals so you know what progress looks like.

Discuss the approach (like CBT, Psychodynamic, Gottman Method, or EMDR) that best fits your personality.

Establish a partnership based on mutual trust and absolute confidentiality.

I aim to help you walk away knowing that you don't have to navigate these complexities alone. We are building a roadmap together, one that leads toward a more balanced, hopeful version of your life.
