About me and my therapy practice
Everyone calls me Nat for short, so feel free to do the same.
I imagine you're here because you feel lost, overwhelmed, stuck, or all of the above. Having been there myself, I know how exhausting that can be. I also know the value of having someone to talk it through with when your thoughts start to spiral.
What counselling offers, is the opportunity for you to share the load, find clarity, and connect with yourself in a space that's just for you.
Experience:
I'm happy talking with you about most things, including anxiety, depression, self-esteem, anger, loss, relationships, and planning life changes.
Over the years, I've found that I work particularly well with people who need time to let their guard down, and prefer a gentle pace, particularly those who have experienced abuse, trauma, neglect, or harm in relationships, and may feel unsafe with others, on high alert, or disconnected from themselves.
I'm also passionate about working with queer identity and neurodiversity, as well as anyone who feels like an outsider or othered by the judgments of society. In a world full of rigid labels and black & white views, we can be left feeling misunderstood or alone. Although I can't change the world, I can offer you a place where you can drop the masks, talk without a filter, and be completely yourself.
As someone who often hasn't felt like they fit the mould, I am also very comfortable working with less conventional life views, and welcome you bringing anything to the conversation, without worrying that I'll immediately try to "fix it".
Qualifications:
- MSc Counselling & Psychotherapy (Distinction) - Keele Uni
- Post Graduate Certificate in Counselling - Keele Uni
- BA (Hons) Business Management (MMU)
I've also completed specific training in Trauma Therapy, Abuse, C-PTSD, Neuro-affirming Therapy, and Relationship Counselling.
Practice description
In sessions, we'll talk things through at your pace, and see if we can help you make sense of things. This might involve exploring emotions or memories that feel heavy or consuming, looking to understand yourself or your situation, finding a different perspective, gently challenging blocks created by old habits or painful life events, or just letting it all out, having a vent, cry, laugh, or swear!
More than anything, I believe that good therapy is built on trust, rapport, and genuine human connection. I value being straightforward, and focus on providing a steady and supportive space above all else.
I'll sometimes ask questions, offer observations, share my knowledge, or give some guidance if you aren't sure where to start, but won't patronise you or pressure you into anything that doesn't feel right.
Recognising the need for trust and integrity in counselling, I am also proud to be part of a small group of local counsellors who have come together to share best practice, engage in ongoing training, and keep each other accountable for quality and ethical standards. As part of providing the best experience possible, we are also happy to refer you between us if your needs change, or you feel that another counsellor might be a better fit.
