Hi there, thanks for checking out my page. I’m Calum and I provide psychotherapy and counselling services.

My working hours are flexible as I work from different therapy centres in Liverpool. I am available to work between 9am-9pm Tuesday to Friday and Saturday 9am-1pm. I work from the Liverpool Therapy Rooms based on Castle Street in L2, Aigburth Counselling and Psychotherapy based on Aigburth road in L17 and also the Ullet Road Eco offices L17. As well as this I offer phone and online sessions.

About me and my therapy practice

Healing and inner work is something I have been passionate and fascinated by for many years. My own healing journey and inner work brought me to begin my psychotherapy training. It is my belief that we can always continue to learn, grow in awareness and this process can be very fulfilling. In terms of formal training and education: I have a Diploma Level 7 in Transactional Analysis - from an integrative perspective. I also have an undergraduate degree BA (Hons) in Philosophy from the University of Liverpool.

I hold memberships for BACP and UKCP and work in adherence with both organisation’s ethical frameworks. I am in regular clinical supervision and have professional protection and public liability insurance. I also have a clean DBS record and am on the enhanced DBS service also.

Practice description

My approach is integrative in that I draw from many teachings and schools of thought and don’t identify solely as a Transactional Analysis practitioner. I firmly believe that therapy can be painful, rewarding, can bring about confusion and a multitude of things can come up for us as we work through our own issues. For this reason I feel that reaching out to talk to someone for many people can be difficult and understand that the process may not be easy. On the other hand you may be at ease with reaching out to talk to someone or have been in some form of therapy before. Either way my approach is flexible, and the basis of our work together would be to work towards what you want to achieve in a joint effort together, towards your highest good.

Through our work together I feel you have the potential to grow, heal and work towards achieving your goals. Whatever it is that you bring, I am committed to supporting your growth and healing and I can offer a safe relationship for you to work towards whatever it is that brings you to therapy. Therapy provides a time and space for reflection, exploration, support and understanding that we may not readily have in our day to day lives.

I feel that each therapeutic piece of work is unique and some people may need, or benefit from longer term work. Others may only be interested in or benefit from a short course of therapy. What works for you is to be found experientially and it is important to discuss and explore this as and when we progress with our work together.

I offer 1hr therapy sessions. I charge a fee of £50 per session for 1 hr and £45 for online/phone sessions. For couples work I charge £65-70 for 1hr sessions. I also have a sliding scale for those with reduced income which can be discussed in more detail. However, I have limited places for clients with reduced rates in my practice. I am also open to 90 minute and 2hr sessions where we mutually agree it would be of benefit.

My first session

I offer a free 20 minute phone call to discuss what things would look like moving forward. This time would allow me to get an idea of what brings you to where you are now, and to get an idea of what your aims may be in beginning therapy. Importantly as well, this may give you a sense of whether I am someone you would be interested in working with. Also, it provides you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about me, how I work and any practicalities that you may want to discuss.

I consider myself an open person and welcome you to ask anything that might not be clear at this stage. It may be that you may feel more comfortable booking an initial session to begin with rather than do a phone consultation, which is also fine. It is important for you to move forward however you feel most comfortable.
