About me and my therapy practice

Are you constantly replaying a conversation you had yesterday, or worrying about how you’ll make an important decision? Perhaps you feel tense or overwhelmed at the thought of talking about what’s going on. You may feel alone, but find it difficult to reach out and ask for help.

Therapy can help you feel calmer and more confident, and develop a kinder and more trusting relationship with yourself and those around you.

Here are some ways therapy can help:

• Talking through your worries, without fear or judgement – so that you can make sense of experiences that have left you feeling confused, powerless or overwhelmed.

• Understanding why you find it difficult to trust your own judgement – so that you can develop greater confidence and make choices that support you.

• Helping you set boundaries and manage other people’s expectations – so that you can develop healthier and more fulfilling relationships.

Whatever has brought you here, you don’t have to make sense of everything before you begin.

• I offer a calm, accepting space where you can talk openly about what’s happening for you without judgement. Together, we can explore what lies beneath your difficulties, understand patterns that may no longer be serving you, and begin to develop a stronger and kinder relationship with yourself.

• My approach is collaborative, intuitive and down-to-earth. I bring warmth, curiosity and compassion to my work, and I believe counselling should feel like a genuine conversation rather than something you have to get “right”. There is also room for humour. Sometimes being able to laugh, even when life feels difficult, can be surprisingly helpful.

Practice description

Areas I particularly work with :

Low self-esteem and confidence

Perhaps you have spent a long time feeling that you’re not enough, or relying on other people’s approval to feel okay about yourself. Counselling can help you understand where these beliefs come from and gradually develop greater self-trust and self-acceptance.

Recovering from coercive control and undue influence

Maybe you’ve been through a relationship or group where you felt controlled, manipulated or gradually lost your sense of self. Even though you’re no longer in that situation, you may still question your judgement, struggle to trust yourself or find it difficult to know what you want. I can offer a safe space to explore what happened and support you in rebuilding your sense of autonomy, identity and confidence.

Living abroad and intercultural experiences

Living in another country can be exciting but can also bring loneliness, uncertainty and a feeling of being caught between different cultures. I have particular experience working with international students and people from overseas living in the UK, including those who are struggling with belonging, identity, relationships or confidence.

Anxiety and relationship difficulties

You may find yourself overthinking, worrying about how others see you, struggling with boundaries or repeatedly falling into familiar relationship patterns. Exploring these patterns can help you understand yourself and your relationships differently.

A little about me

I’m a qualified counsellor with over 16 years’ experience. I was born and brought up in Yorkshire and lived in France for over 35 years before returning to the UK.

I have a wide and varied experience both professionally and personally. I worked in the corporate world of international marketing and education before retraining as a counsellor.

Alongside my private practice, I work as a counsellor for a specialist charity supporting people who have experienced sexual trauma and domestic abuse.

My first session

The first session is an opportunity for you to talk about what has brought you to counselling and what you would like to be different. I’ll ask some questions to help me understand your situation, and I’ll explain a little about how I work.

Most importantly, it’s an opportunity for you to see how it feels to talk to me. Finding the right counsellor is important, and there is no expectation that you have to decide immediately.

If, at the end of the session, you feel that counselling with me could be helpful, we can discuss where you would like to go from there.
