About me and my therapy practice

Discovery Call

Choosing the right therapist is important. I don't know yet if we are a good match but the only way to know is for us to talk … so book a discovery call, I can answer all your questions and it's FREE; you have nothing to lose.

A discovery call is an opportunity to connect with me, understand better how I work and discuss your needs. You decide if it feels right, then we agree when to start work. If not, no problem.

Why choose Just Bee?

To be honest, there’s a lot of different therapies around and they can all have benefits... but you are unique and the way I work means your experience of therapy is what you want it to be 🐝

I am a person-centred counsellor which means:

  • you will benefit from feeling heard, understood and valued
  • therapy will enable you to build on your strengths and find your own solutions
  • I share with you knowledge, ideas and strategies I think might help you but I won't tell you what to do or advise you

You can be confident I work professionally and ethically because I am a registered member of the BACP and I have been supporting people to make positive changes in their lives since 2016.

I am also a member of the amazing counselling team at Kyra Women's Project, a unique, independent charity in York city centre.

Practice description

Welcome to Just Bee Counselling... I’m Lis and I live in York, UK.

I love helping people become the best they can be 🐝 ... I am friendly and approachable and I love laughter.

I work a lot with individual adults who are struggling with difference, for example neurodivergence or physical impairment.

Through acceptance and support you can build on your unique identity and thrive in a world where others are not quite the same.

We can work:

  • face to face in at Copmanthorpe Lane, Bishopthorpe, York, North Yorkshire
  • face to face in your home (+mileage costs)
  • online
  • phone

My space is pleasant and private. I'm on the outskirts of York, parking is easy, or there’s a regular bus service. If you cycle or walk I'm on the Solar System Greenway.

I am very willing to make adjustments to ensure you are as relaxed and comfortable as possible, just let me know your needs.

My first session

How do I know what I'm signing up for?

We will discuss and sign a written agreement so you know what to expect from counselling and you can make an informed choice about working with me. It sets out our rights and responsibilities, including fees and confidentiality. You will also get a copy of my privacy policy as I will need to collect some information about you.

There is no minimum or maximum number of sessions but I do offer a discount if you book 4 sessions in advance.

Getting started

Together we can explore your preferences and you can tell me about what is troubling you. You might want to talk about your feelings and emotional experiences, recent or past, discover your core values and identify your needs, create goals for therapy, focus on improving self-care and self-esteem, work on making better decisions, or improving communication skills.

Or you may just want to talk and be heard. That's good.

You choose your direction but the process means that you can start growing as a person who can achieve what you want in your life.

I have a sand tray, values, emotions and character strengths cards which you can use to help express feelings and clarify thoughts without words.

I can use some CBT tools if they are relevant and I am a Breathworks Mindfulness Champion so I can offer some mindfulness techniques, if appropriate.

I believe that it is a really good idea to get help sooner rather than later, so get in touch now, you have nothing to lose.

“Therapy isn’t a cure in and of itself. It’s just an arena where healing can take place: it’s a place where we can learn to better manage our feelings for ourselves. It’s not something that someone else does for us” Carolyn Spring, author, trainer, and trauma survivor
