About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor and BACP registered member with nine years’ experience supporting adults and young people across mental health, wellbeing, community and organisational settings.
Over the years, I have worked with clients at different stages of life, from varied cultures, professions, industries and walks of life, including people living and working across the UK and internationally. I have supported individuals, groups, teams and organisations, which has given me a broad understanding of how personal history, relationships, culture, faith, work and wider life experiences can affect emotional wellbeing.
My way of working is warm, relational and collaborative. My core training is psychodynamic, so we may explore how earlier experiences and relationship patterns continue to shape the present. I also work integratively, drawing on person-centred, CBT, mindfulness and solution-focused approaches where helpful.
A particular strength of my practice is the use of creativity. I understand that words can sometimes feel limiting, especially when experiences are difficult to explain. Where it feels right for you, we may use creative writing, imagery, art-making, music, movement, play or drama-based reflection to help you express, explore and understand what may be hard to put into words.
You do not need to be creative or “good” at any of these activities. They are simply additional ways of helping you connect with your thoughts, feelings and experiences. Together, we will shape the work around what feels safe, useful and meaningful for you.
Practice description
Therapy with me offers a regular, confidential space where you can pause, speak honestly and begin to make sense of what is happening in your life.
Some people come because they feel anxious, low, overwhelmed or stuck. Others are trying to understand difficult relationships, past experiences, identity, loss, work pressures or a major life transition. You may know exactly what you want to focus on, or you may only know that something does not feel right. Both are welcome.
I do not use one fixed approach for everyone. At times, our work may be open and exploratory. At other times, it may be more structured and practical. We may look at patterns, coping strategies, communication, boundaries, confidence or small steps towards change.
Because I have worked across counselling, youth, community, education, domestic abuse, wellbeing and organisational settings, I am used to supporting people with very different life experiences. I also have considerable experience of group work and understand the value of shared reflection, belonging and learning from others.
Creative approaches can be part of the work where helpful. Words are important, but they are not always enough. Music, movement, art, play, creative writing, imagery or drama-based reflection can sometimes open a different route into feelings and experiences. We will only use these approaches if they suit you.
I offer online and telephone therapy, alongside short-term, time-limited and longer-term work. We will review the work together so that therapy remains relevant to your needs.
My first session
I know that beginning therapy can feel unfamiliar, especially if you are used to managing alone or have found it difficult to put your experiences into words.
Our first session is a chance for us to meet, talk about what has brought you to therapy and consider what you would like support with. I may ask about your current circumstances, emotional wellbeing, important relationships, previous experiences of support and any concerns about your safety or mental health. You will not be expected to tell me everything at once.
I will explain how I work, confidentiality and its limits, session arrangements and cancellations. You will also have time to ask questions and to say what would help you feel comfortable.
The first session is not a test, and there is no pressure to make a long-term commitment. It is an opportunity for both of us to consider whether working together feels right. We can discuss whether short-term, focused therapy or longer-term work may be more suitable.
You are welcome to communicate in the way that feels most natural to you. Some people prefer to talk, while others find it easier to use writing, images, objects, music or other creative ways of expressing themselves. We can agree together what feels safe and useful.
My first session is charged at my usual session rate.
