About me and my therapy practice
My Approach is all about tuning into your needs; how we work together, the pace of exploring things, what makes you feel comfortable, working in creative ways... the way we 'do therapy' is entirely tailored to you. I don't come with an agenda, only a commitment to supporting you in understanding what's going on, why, and where you'd like to go from here.
I would describe my practice as relational, collaborative and explorative. Our professional relationship is an important vehicle for working through whatever brings you to therapy, so I am committed to bringing myself in a real (yet professional) way. I do support you in leading the direction of therapy - in this way I am client-led - but our work is a collaborative effort; you bring yourself and an openness to look at thoughts, feelings and experiences that may be difficult at times, and I bring clinical experience, emotional attunement and space for you to process. By explorative, I don't just mean that we explore your life's story together, but also that we let the flow of therapy unfold without too many restrictions; unless we're working in a short-term capacity, having time and space to talk about the seemingly 'little' things can pull together threads that help make more sense of the 'bigger' issues at hand.
My Clinical Focus incorporates a variety of issues, but to simplify things I have categorised my work into four elements; identity, relationships, religious & spiritual trauma, and groups. Examples of identity work might be clients who want to deepen their concept of self, work through shifts in identity (e.g. life stages, gender identity, becoming a parent) or unpack an ADHD diagnosis. Relationships could mean romantic relationships and issues, familial dynamics or inherited trauma, or processing endings. Religious trauma might cover deconstructing beliefs, grieving losses around beliefs and community, etc. Groups are run in-person, locally to my private practice - please contact me for more information.
Practice description
My private practice is currently operational with me as an individual counsellor, under the branding Sisu Therapies.
Sisu Therapies is the name of a multidisciplinary practice I co-founded with my sister and licensed Acupuncturist, Izzy Pask. We are working on establishing a holistic health and wellness clinic that allows clients to receive treatments and care across a variety of areas by a dedicated team of health professionals. For more information about this, please contact me or visit our website (sisu-therapies.com/our-vision).
My first session
Our consultation appointment is a free 30-minute online appointment set up before booking in our first session together. Before the appointment, you will be sent a client intake form. This form is designed to provide me with some basic information about you, so that I can assess whether your needs match my clinical competency. It also means you can share some initial details about what brings you to therapy, so that I can make the best use of our first meeting to ask you the right questions about what you may need from therapy - and for us to see if I'm a good 'fit' for you.
If we both agree that we are happy to begin working together, our first session will typically be a follow on from the information provided in the consultation; we will begin to look at the most pressing thing (or things) that are driving you to come to therapy, but also we will be looking at your 'background' - understanding the context of who you are and what your story is. We will also look at a contract (or working agreement) which outlines the boundaries of our professional relationship. If you have any thoughts, questions, concerns, even fears... I encourage you to bring these into our first session if you haven't already at our consultation appointment. It's my job to provide you with a safe and secure environment for our therapy work, and you deserve to feel able to be honest about what you need from our sessions.
If you're interested in booking a consultation but have some questions, please get in touch with me via my email or through the Contact Us page on my website.
