About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I’m Jen. I’m a BACP-registered and UKCP-accredited counsellor offering in-person short and long-term therapy to adults (18+) in a beautiful and calming space in Gosforth. My practice focuses on clients navigating life transitions, and I specialise in working with young adults aged 18-25, to whom I offer a reduced fee.

If you’ve tried CBT or other structured therapies before, and are looking for something deeper and more relational, then psychotherapeutic counselling may be a good option for you. Our sessions will be more open and exploratory, sometimes challenging at first, but often deeply rewarding as you begin to find your own voice and uncover what truly matters to you.

I am trained in Transactional Analysis (TA), a powerful model that helps you understand patterns in your thinking, feeling, and relating to others so that you can make lasting, meaningful change. I work integratively though, which means I draw from a range of other humanist approaches. These include, person-centred, Gestalt, existential approaches, compassion-focused therapy (CFT), solution-focused brief therapy, and trauma-informed principles. This flexible approach means that your therapy is shaped around you, your pace, your needs, and what genuinely supports your wellbeing.

Practice description

I love supporting people through a range of life transitions, when things can feel uncertain, overwhelming, and emotionally challenging. These transitions may include:

  • leaving home or university
  • mid-life issues
  • bereavement and loss
  • career transitions
  • major lifestyle changes
  • family and relationship difficulties
  • menopause
  • ageing and retirement

During life transitions people are quite often trying to figure out who they are and what they want and can benefit from a safe space in which to explore their purpose and identity. If this sounds like you and what you need, please get in touch and we will see how I can help.

I specialise in working with young adults aged 18-25 navigating the transition from adolescence to adulthood. Many young adults at this stage struggle with messy emotions, past mistakes, and feelings of shame. The psychological challenges of this life stage can be greatly underestimated and it can be hard to find a space where you can explore these issues safely.

Whatever it is you are going through, I bring energy, warmth, and a non-judgemental approach, helping you to unravel what you are feeling and start to accept your experiences. My work is focused on reducing shame, supporting you to feel more at ease with yourself, and empowering you to move forward.

I have extensive experience of supporting young adults in challenging situations, including 15 years of working with young people in the criminal justice system and counselling students in a University setting. This has given me a deep understanding of the challenges young people face during periods of transition.

Please be aware that I am unable to work privately with student enrolled at Northumbria University.

My first session

If you are considering therapy, I am happy to talk through what you are looking for. I offer a free 20 minute introductory telephone or video call in which I can tell you more about how I work and you can ask any questions about the arrangements for counselling before committing to an initial assessment. This is not a therapy session, but a gentle starting point.

In the initial assessment, I will gather some important information for the purpose of counselling, before exploring what prompted you to seek help now and what your expectations are. Initial assessments are charged at £65.00 for 50 minutes, payable in advance. All therapy sessions thereafter are also charged at £65.00 for 50 mins, payable in advance.

For young adults aged 18-25, I offer a reduced fee of £55 for 50 minutes.
