About me and my therapy practice

I believe therapy can be life-changing. I offer a holding, supportive space to explore feelings, beliefs and experiences that shape how we understand ourselves. Therapy can also be a place to question normative ideas about how we are expected to live, relate and be.

As an integrative psychotherapist, I draw from a range of approaches and tailor our work to you, rather than expecting you to fit a particular model. I work relationally and collaboratively, from a feminist praxis, with an awareness of how our social, cultural and political worlds intersect with our inner lives and wellbeing.

We can also draw on our working relationship to notice and explore patterns of relating as they emerge between us. This can create opportunities for understanding and potentially experience something different.

I am interested in approaches that do not pathologise distress. The strategies and defences we develop may once have been necessary and protective. Together, we can explore their origins and whether they continue to serve you now.

My professional history is rooted in somatic and creative practice. For 35 years I have worked in dance, theatre, clowning and yoga, making, performing and teaching. My creative and somatic practice can inform our work when talking feels limited, the non-verbal feels important, or a ‘rehearsal for life’ might be useful.

I practise in an LGBTQIA+ and neurodiversity-affirming way. I welcome exploration of gender, sexuality and relationship diversity, with an intersectional awareness of the contexts in which we live.

Practice description

I trained at The Minster Centre, qualifying with a Postgraduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling and a Masters in Integrative Psychotherapy.

I worked for two years at Frontline, a culturally sensitive therapeutic service before establishing my private practice. I am particularly interested in how our individual histories meet the wider social and cultural contexts in which we live particularly in relation to experiences of inclusion or marginalisation.

I offer short-term counselling and long-term psychotherapy work depending on what you would like to explore. The length of therapy is something we can review together at any point.

I abide by the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions and am committed to practising ethically, respectfully and with an awareness of the power and responsibility inherent in the therapeutic relationship.

My first session

Choosing a therapist you feel able to work with openly is important. If you are curious about therapy or about working with me, please get in touch via email. We can arrange a free 20 minute initial consultation to talk about what brings you to therapy and to explore whether we feel we might be a good fit for working together.

If we decide to continue, our first session will be more structured. I will ask you questions about what you are hoping for and anything you feel is important for me to understand. This gives us an opportunity to begin co-creating a way of working that is relevant to your needs, circumstances and hopes. We can also explore how we would like our sessions to take place: in person, online, or a combination of both — as well as when we meet.

The relationship we build together is an important part of the work. It takes time to develop, and I believe that feeling safe, understood and able to bring your whole self into the room is fundamental.
