Availability
I currently work Monday-Friday, but try to arrange my hours around client availability, as finding therapy that fits in with with a busy daily life can be difficult. I currently have some availability and recommend contacting me via email to schedule a time that is mutually convenient. I work remotely.
About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Helen. My goal in our counselling sessions is to create a safe, supportive space where you can explore the experiences and challenges that have shaped your values, behaviours, and life journey. Together, we’ll deepen your understanding of how these experiences continue to influence you today, while also focusing on how you can move forward with greater self-compassion, confidence, and purpose. Our work is not only about understanding the past, but about supporting your personal growth and helping you step more fully into your potential.
Life’s struggles can profoundly affect how we see ourselves and how we relate to others. At times, these challenges can feel so overwhelming that we find ourselves stuck in patterns that no longer align with our values or who we want to be. Developing insight into these patterns is an important part of healing, but it is equally about learning new ways of responding, growing, and creating change that feels authentic and empowering.
I believe there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to counselling. Your experiences are unique, and you are the expert in your own life. My role is to support your self-awareness and personal development by helping you understand how trauma, adversity, and life challenges have shaped your sense of self. Through our work together, we’ll focus on building resilience, fostering meaningful change, and cultivating a renewed sense of possibility for your future.
I work with a range of concerns, with particular experience supporting individuals through suicide bereavement, domestic abuse, childhood and adult trauma. I also help clients navigate relationship challenges and existential questions around meaning and identity. Whatever you are facing, you don’t have to navigate it alone, I am here to support your growth, healing, and ongoing development.
Practice description
MY APPROACH I am a Person-Centred counsellor, this means that within my practice, I don’t direct your process but instead, work collaboratively with you to find a path forward that aligns with who you are and who you want to become. This approach is reflective of your value system, your goals, and what feels comfortable for you. I believe that we react to our experiences as a whole organism, this means physically and psychologically. and the latest developments in neuroscience support this perspective. Neuroscience helps explain why we sometimes feel out of control regarding our feelings and behaviours. It sheds light on default behavioural patterns that may have been initially helpful for our survival but are now hindering our ability to progress in life. I integrate an understanding of how the brain works into my counselling sessions to help you comprehend what might be happening on both a physiological and emotional level. This understanding can often provide insight into why we sometimes feel we are not ‘in control’ and what steps we can take to regain control of our emotions, thoughts, and behaviours. I look forward to supporting you on your journey to self-discovery and growth.
My first session
Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and to explore whether working together feels right for you. The aim is to begin creating a safe, comfortable, and supportive space where we can gently explore the aspects of your life or experiences that have brought you to counselling.
During this session, I complete an assessment with all clients. This helps us clarify what has led you to seek therapy, your expectations and understanding of the process, and what you hope to gain from our work together. Going through this together also allows us both to reflect on whether we feel we are a 'good fit', as I believe that a strong, trusting working relationship is central to meaningful and effective therapeutic work.
