About me and my therapy practice
Many people are unsure what will help them when they come to counselling, they just know that what they are experiencing needs to change and they would like help to do that.
My approach is to work alongside people and to guide them in a direction which I feel would be beneficial, maybe setting a specific goal to work towards or just being able to see what unfolds. For me, my approach is about encouraging people to explore difficult emotions or situations and to try to discover a better way to cope, navigate or resolve them, this could be by using worksheets, guided imagery, creativity, personal reading/research or to continue talking. I see our work together as one of collaboration, exploration and guiding and on occasion some gentle challenging to ensure that you continue to make progress in our sessions.
Practice description
My practice is a garden room set in a well kept secure garden at my home address with entry through a separate side entrance. It provides a confidential, comfortable and relaxed space in which you can feel able to share personal things about yourself and your life without fear of intrusion or being overheard.
My first session
In my first session with you I would like to find out a bit about you and what brought you to counselling. I would like to gain some background and situation information which I will write down on a form for reference and recording purposes.
I would like to get an idea of what may work for you in terms of how we conduct the sessions and whether you would like to use any aids like worksheets or creativity in them.
Its a chance for us to discuss your needs and for me to express my limitations and whether we feel that we would be able to work together.
