About me and my therapy practice

Taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting, particularly if you're unsure what to expect. I offer a warm, supportive and confidential space where you can talk openly, feel heard and begin to make sense of what you are experiencing.

My therapeutic style is gentle, collaborative and reflective. I won't tell you what you should do or judge you for how you feel. Instead, we'll work together to understand what is happening for you, at a pace that feels manageable and right for you.

You may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious or stuck, struggling with relationships or work, or simply wanting to understand yourself and your experiences more deeply. Whatever brings you to counselling, I will work alongside you to help you gain greater clarity, develop new perspectives, create strategies and explore ways of moving forward.

I am a qualified and registered counsellor (MBACP), offering online and telephone counselling to adults aged 18 and over. Alongside my private practice, I have experience working within charity counselling services, supporting people with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, bereavement, work-related stress, life transitions and other emotional challenges.

I also bring over 40 years of experience working in the public sector. This has given me a particular understanding of the pressures and challenges that can arise in working life, as well as the impact that work can have on confidence, relationships and overall wellbeing. I particularly enjoy supporting people who are experiencing work-related stress, life transitions or relationship difficulties.

I believe that people can grow and develop when they feel genuinely accepted, understood and supported. Creating that kind of therapeutic relationship is at the heart of my work.

Practice description

My core approach is Person-Centred. This means that I see you as the expert in your own life. Rather than providing ready-made answers, I offer a safe and supportive space in which you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences and begin to understand what you need.

I also draw on psychodynamic and integrative approaches when these may be helpful. This can include exploring whether experiences from the past are influencing how you feel, think or relate to others in the present.

Every person is different, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Some people come to counselling because they are struggling with a particular situation and want focused, short-term support. Others want the opportunity to explore longstanding patterns, relationships or aspects of themselves in greater depth.

We can work together to understand what you are looking for from therapy and find an approach that feels appropriate for you.

My first session

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and to think together about whether counselling feels right for you and whether we are a good fit to work together.

We'll talk about what has brought you to counselling, what you would like support with and what you hope to gain from therapy. There will also be plenty of opportunity for you to ask questions and discuss anything you may be unsure or concerned about.

If you'd prefer to speak with me before arranging a session, I offer a free 15-minute introductory telephone call. This gives you the opportunity to ask questions and get a sense of whether I might be the right counsellor for you. There is no obligation to continue beyond the call.

I offer short-term and longer-term counselling online and by telephone for adults aged 18+. Online therapy can provide the flexibility of accessing counselling from the comfort and privacy of your own home.

If you'd like to make an enquiry, you can contact me by phone, email or text. I aim to respond to enquiries within 24–48 hours.
