About me and my therapy practice
Hiya I’m Amy, thanks for having a look at my page. If you’re here, you might be thinking about talking to someone.
That first step of contacting a counsellor can feel like a big one, it's ok if it feels weird or a bit awkward, I remember being in that position myself. I’ve sat on the other side of the counselling room, so I know what it’s like to take that first brave step. This is why I aim to offer a warm space where you can talk at your own pace, at first contact and beyond. There's no pressure and no judgment, just a want to understand what's brought you here.
The way I work is collaborative, meaning that during sessions with me, we will explore your thoughts and feelings together. I'm not here to fix or tell you what to do, but I will support you in tuning into your own answers.
I care deeply about doing this work ethically, which is why I work towards the standards set out in the BACP ethical framework. Client autonomy is also at the core of how I work, it’s your space, your pace, but I’m not just a nodding head. I’ll be fully engaged, offering empathy, insights, and sometimes a nudge when something may benefit from a closer look.
If any of this resonates with you, or you’re just a bit curious, feel free to get in touch, I’m happy to chat and see if we might be a good fit.
Practice description
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and hold a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling from Gloucestershire College.
Over the years I have spent the majority of my practice at a counselling charity, during my time there, I’ve had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients, each seeking counselling for unique and varied reasons.
In addition to my counselling practice, I am also a Lecturer in Counselling delivering CPCAB counselling courses.
I will always respond to enquiries, if you choose to connect via email and don't hear back from me, have a look in your spam folder - my response might be hiding in there.
My first session
After we first connect, I’ll arrange a call to discuss availability and get a sense of what you’re hoping to achieve through counselling.
The first session is an opportunity for both of us to assess whether we’re a good fit. It’s a chance to see how I work and whether you feel comfortable with me as your counsellor. Whatever you bring to the session is welcome. You may have nerves, questions, or concerns about “explaining everything again” to a stranger. Maybe you're feeling overwhelmed about where to begin, or perhaps you're excited about taking this step for yourself. Whatever your experience, we’ll take it one step at a time, at a pace that feels right for you.
