About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I'm Rhys.

Life can often feel like a series of "re-runs." Perhaps you’ve noticed you’re hitting the same ceiling at work, feeling that familiar "imposter" dread before a promotion or exam, or finding yourself in the same frustrating loops in your relationships.

When we feel stuck, it’s usually because we’re following an old "script", one written long ago that doesn’t quite fit the person you are today

Practice description

How I work:

I’m an accredited BACP psychotherapist with a deep interest in why we do what we do. My approach is rooted in Transactional Analysis (TA), which is essentially a way of mapping out our internal world. I combine this with neuroscience and psychodynamic theory to help you understand your brain and your history, without the heavy clinical jargon.

My background is a mix of private practice and intensive work within the children’s residential care sector. That experience has given me a real, grounded perspective on how our early years shape our adult lives, but in our sessions, the focus is on helping you find more freedom and ease in the present.

What we can explore together:

The Professional Self: Navigating the pressures of exams, career transitions, and the unique mental load of being a high-achiever.

Self-Discovery: Looking "under the bonnet" at your patterns to understand why you react the way you do.

Relationship Dynamics: Understanding the relationship patterns we play out with others and how to communicate with more honesty and less conflict.

ADHD & Neurodiversity: Finding practical, compassionate ways to work with your brain, rather than against it.

A bit about me:

I hold a degree in Psychology and am currently finishing my exams to become an internationally recognised Transactional Analysis Psychotherapist. I’m based in beautiful North Wales, but I work entirely online, meaning I can offer you a dedicated, professional space regardless of your postcode.

If you’re curious about your own process and ready to write a new script for yourself, I’d love to hear from you. Please do get in touch for an initial chat.

My first session

It can feel a bit daunting to start therapy, so I like to be very clear about how we begin. Our initial sessions are a collaborative "getting to know you" phase.

We’ll use this time to:

Explore your history: Gently looking at your past to see how it might be colouring your present.

Identify your goals: Discussing what you actually want to get out of our time together, whether that’s navigating a specific promotion or a deeper sense of self-understanding.

Ensure we’re a good fit: Therapy is a relationship, and it’s important that you feel I am the right person to support you.

This initial period is about making sure my approach aligns with your needs. If we decide we are a good match, we’ll then begin the process of unpicking those old scripts and building something new.

What I can help with

Abuse, ADD / ADHD, Anxiety, Cultural issues, Identity issues, LGBTQ+ counselling, Life coaching, Men's issues, Mood disorder, Neurodiversity, Personal development, Post-traumatic stress, Relationships, Trauma

Clients I work with

Adults, Children, Groups, Organisations, Trainees, Young people

About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I'm Rhys, and thanks for reading.

Helo, Rhys ydw I, a diolch am ddarllen.

I am a registered member of the BACP, practicing Transactional Analysis psychotherapy and Trauma focused therapy.

Starting therapy, or with a new therapist can be difficult but the fact that you are reading this, displays a great amount of strength and willingness to improve the quality of your life.

A bit about me:

I have several years experience working as a psychotherapist, with 5 years of study prior to training. This includes not for profit sector, social care sector and have a small private practice where I offer online therapy, outdoor therapy and face to face sessions in English or Welsh language.

I receive regular personal therapy and clinical supervision to ensure I continue to remain in a reflective and helpful position to all clients.

I am from a rural background, in North Wales. Prior to a career change in my mid 20s, I worked in construction and agriculture. Since then, I have gained experience working in emergency services and the social care sector, giving me a broad range of experience in understanding nuances of subcultures.

I am also a keen traveller and language enthusiast. I am especially interested in how our first language impacts the way we view ourselves.
