About me and my therapy practice
I am a registered BACP Humanistic Integrative Counsellor with a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling.
I believe the heart of therapy lies in the relationship we build together; through genuine empathy and unconditional positive regard, trust can flourish.
Seeking to understand the world through your eyes. There is no other person that has walked your path, the circumstances and experiences you have encountered are unique to you. Through active listening I hope to to begin to understand how life really feels for you.
Counselling offers a rare opportunity to focus entirely on yourself— something that can be hard to come by in our busy lives. So often, hurried conversations leave us feeling unheard or misunderstood, we can encounter judgment, unwanted advice, or guilt wondering if we have shared too much.
In counselling, you’ll find acceptance. There’s no need to censor yourself to accommodate others; we work together so you feel safe to bring your authentic self, whatever that means for you in each moment.
Person centred counselling is my core modality but as an integrative counsellor I am also trained in a variety of other modalities and may draw on various other theories and models as and when needed.
My counselling experience includes 2 years as in house counsellor for York Medical Group, and 1 year for the online platform Betterhelp. I also have counselling experience at York College and York St John University, in addition to maintaining my online private practice. In total I have 5 years counselling experience.
I work through a Trauma informed lens and have experienced a wide range of client issues and presentations. I have also carried out further training on domestic abuse and mental health. My practice is neuro affirmative, with further training and lived experience of neurodivergence. With years of experience as a parent living with EBSA, and navigating the complex SEN system.
Practice description
I offer a safe, welcoming space for you to share your story and explore your needs. We will work together to find the path that best suits you, whether you are seeking short-term or long-term therapy, or have a specific goal you wish to work towards. Everyone’s journey is unique, and we can follow whatever route of exploration suits you best.
As a Humanistic therapist I encompasses a variety of therapeutic modalities. Each of these approaches sharing core principles and values. Central to the humanistic approach is the belief in free will, self-discovery, and the pursuit of one’s full potential. Rather than focusing solely on isolated issues or symptoms, humanistic therapy considers the whole person. It acknowledges everything that makes you unique and places emphasis on your individuality and your connection with the world around you. Humanistic therapy is client-led, meaning the therapist collaborates with you on the topics and concerns you wish to explore.
This might include,
*Developing awareness of your internal world, paying close attention to your thoughts, feelings, and reactions as they arise.
*Examining the beliefs and thoughts that shape your self-perception and actions.
* Working together to identify unhelpful thinking patterns, such as negative automatic thoughts or deeply held beliefs.
*Understanding your emotions and how they manifest in your body.
*Explore how past experiences, influence the way you feel today.
*Look for patterns in your behaviour and relationships.
As we explore these insights, you may develop greater self-awareness, allowing you to make more intentional choices and gain a more authentic connection with yourself and others.
I currently offer sessions over the telephone or online through a video link. I am experienced in distance counselling and offer a safe, private, confidential space where you can get the most from online sessions.
I have undertaken 80 hours further training on the Counselling tutor Online and Telephone Counselling course.
My first session
I offer an initial free 20-minute phone call, giving you the opportunity to say why you might be seeking therapy at this time, ask questions and give us a sense whether it is possible and practical to work together.
Following on from this, if you choose to book in for an initial session, we will find a suitable day and time for us both to meet either on the phone and/or online, which ever feels right for you. In advance this initial meeting, I can send a ‘Statement of Understanding for the Initial Session’ which gives some sense of what to expect and details of how to pay. My fee for this session, which is 50 mins, is £50.
The first session is a bit more structured; it gives me the opportunity to find out more about you and check we don’t have any conflict of interests to ensure we can work together safely. We can discuss what you hope to get from counselling how to best meet your needs.
I require payment upfront, either at the time of booking or within 24 hours of your appointment time.
