About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Suzanne. I'm an experienced, qualified person-centred counsellor offering sessions in-person in Prestwood (near Amersham / Great Missenden / High Wycombe), by phone and Zoom.
Everyone has periods in their life when things are difficult to cope with. It might be something that has just happened or something that happened a long time ago but there's often no-one you can really talk to. Counselling allows you to unpack all the thoughts and feelings that are taking up so much space and energy, so you can figure out how to move forward and feel better.
I specialise in bereavement, grief and loss. I've worked for Cruse Bereavement Support for over six years.
Talking about grief and unpacking your feelings are crucial steps towards learning to live alongside your loss and move forward with your life. Thankfully, counselling really can help. It can’t change what happened, but it can help you adjust and get to a place where grief is no longer overwhelming.
Grief is different for everyone; it reflects the relationship with the person who has died – sometimes straightforward but often complicated. Talking helps unpick the knots and smooth the edges so your loss is less painful and lighter, making it easier to carry.
Some clients feel nervous about starting counselling, worried they will be overwhelmed with the feelings they have been suppressing. It’s like standing on a beach watching a tsunami of emotion coming towards you. In the short term it's easier to run away from these feelings and wait for the wave to subside. But it takes a lot of energy to keep running up that hill. And if you stand on that beach and let the wave come, it might knock you over, but you’ll get back up and the next time it comes you’ll know – I’ll be ok, I’ll get back up. The waves lose their power, getting gradually smaller until, eventually, you can simply paddle in their shallows.
I can help by supporting you as you explore your thoughts and feelings and get back on track.
Practice description
What to expect from me
I'm a very warm, down-to-earth person. Easy to talk to, empathic, non-judgemental and very much there for you. I give you the space you need to explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe and supported way.
Often I am the only person a client can talk to about their thoughts and feelings and I take that very seriously. Confidentiality is guaranteed, as is a judgement-free space where you feel valued and supported.
Clients who have worked me me say they:
⁃ feel calmer, happier, less alone (often people think they are the only one who feels this way but then find out this is not true at all)
⁃ know and understand themselves better
- sleep better (some people who had stopped dreaming start dreaming again as they unlock their feelings)
⁃ become better able to cope (often by spotting the warning signs that things are becoming too much and learning how to look after themselves better)
⁃ become more resilient
⁃ feel able to look to the future with confidence and positivity
If I sound like the sort of person you could work with, get in touch and I’ll do my very best to help.
I offer free 15-minute initial consultations so you can get to know me and decide if you'd like to work with me.
I offer sessions in person and by Zoom, WhatsApp video call or phone, whichever suits you best. Sometimes clients switch between in person / video and phone as needed.
My first session
Before our first session I'll email you a working agreement to read in advance, which covers confidentiality and its limits, payment information, notice periods and information about how to prepare for your counselling sessions.
You'll also be asked to fill in a registration form online so I have all the required information and we don't have to spend time in our session on administration.
Once payment is received (24 hours in advance of the session) I'll send you a Zoom link if that is your preferred platform. If we are working by phone or WhatsApp I will call you at the agreed date and time.
If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask.
