About me and my therapy practice

I wonder how you are feeling as you look through these profiles? I know the search for the right therapist can bring up lots of thoughts and questions...Maybe you're feeling hopeful, having made the decision to seek support? Maybe there's a bit of worry as you start to turn towards the difficulties that have brought you here? I would imagine there could be a sense of wanting to feel safe with someone, even though we are strangers to begin with? I think all that...and more... is really understandable.

For most people, knowing the technicalities of different ways of working such as "integrative", "person centred" or "psychodynamic", although accurate about me, isn't meaningful in helping you decide if I'm the right fit for you or your young person. So I'm happy to offer a free introductory call to have an informal chat about how we might work together.

Practice description

Lorna’s integrative approach draws on several therapeutic techniques, including person-centred and psychodynamic therapy, as well as the work of Peter Levine and Bessel van der Kolk in gently attuning to trauma. This flexible and contextual method ensures that the unique needs of each client are met.

For several years, Lorna has worked as a Secondary School and Sixth Form/College Counsellor. She understands the immense pressures young people face during a pivotal time of self-discovery, autonomy, and relational boundary-setting. Lorna’s kindly curious and warmly informal manner fosters therapeutic trust, empowering young people to become the authors of their own solutions. She also provides practical, hope-seeking strategies for addressing self-harm, anxiety, body image or eating concerns, and encounters with feelings of suicidality. Lorna has additional training in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST). Her careful application of a three-phase model reduces the risk of retraumatisation for clients who find discussing traumatic events distressing.

Notably, Lorna has a keen interest in eating disorders and the emerging field of Nutritional Psychotherapy, exploring the intricate connections between gut health, inflammation, and mental well-being. Working alongside a Qualified Functional Nutritionist can bring amazing holistic results that adds a supercharged improvements in mental health symptoms over talking therapy alone.

Lorna is working towards a post graduate diploma in working with eating distress with the National Centre for Eating Disorders, qualifying in mid 2026.
