About me and my therapy practice
Feeling alone with troubling thoughts and emotions can be incredibly difficult. I understand that finding the right person to open up to can feel like an additional challenge and a daunting step to take. I am an experienced, qualified counsellor who is passionate about providing a warm, authentic and accepting space for you to speak freely about what you're experiencing, for you to gain a better understanding of yourself, and a clearer sense of where you want to be. Whatever your reasons for seeking counselling I see my role as accompanying you through the therapy process, to find real change, hope and freedom.
Practice description
I work in a sensitive, collaborative and professional way, that honours and respects your life experience and autonomy. Confidentiality and ethical working are of upmost importance in my practice. My training was grounded in a person-centred approach which means I am led by you regarding what you want to discuss, what you hope to achieve, and we'll review our work together regularly to be sure it is meeting your needs. A fundamental belief in person centred counselling is that each person has the capacity and potential for change and wholeness; my job is to help you learn to trust and listen to yourself more deeply and honestly to discover acceptance and ways forward. Sessions are not structured, but I sometimes integrate elements of various counselling approaches if I believe it could be helpful, such as creative interventions, CBT tools, use of imagery and metaphor, as well as sharing relevant theory to increase clients' understanding of their situation and responses.Another significant element of my training was working with faith and spirituality so I am open to clients wishing to explore this subject and how it interacts with other issues and areas of life.
I recently undertook some training to deliver the 'Rewind technique' which is effective in reducing or eliminating symptoms of trauma and PTSD.
I currently work in an educational setting counselling young people, but my private practice is primarily aimed at adults due to my limited availability on Monday daytimes. I offer a free introductory session to give us a chance to meet and discuss what you are looking for. There is no pressure to continue if my style or experience does not fit with what you feel you need – I understand it is a very personal and important decision. Please get in touch if you would like to find out more.
My first session
I offer a free 30 minute phone call or in person session for you to find out more and decide whether you would like to book in for further sessions.
Our first session after that would be an assessment session so that we can go through a working agreement, discuss confidentiality and my ethical code of practice, and for me to find out more about what has brought you into counselling.
