About me and my therapy practice

🌿 Hello hello, I’m Liz Heald — the face behind Heald Therapy.

As my surname very fittingly suggests, I’ve always been drawn towards supporting people emotionally and helping them feel genuinely heard, understood and accepted as they are.

Starting therapy can feel daunting, especially if it is your first experience of counselling, which is why creating a safe and approachable environment is incredibly important to me.

Heald Therapy was created to offer a space where you don’t have to have everything figured out before you arrive. We’ll make sense of it together.

I often work with clients who appear to be coping on the outside whilst internally feeling overwhelmed, emotionally drained or disconnected from themselves.

Above all else, my aim is to create a space where you feel heard, understood and able to explore things honestly and at your own pace.

For any further information you may need including wellbeing resources and free downloadable guides, please feel free to explore my website.

You can also find Heald Therapy on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn for therapeutic content, wellbeing resources and updates 🤍

Practice description

What Therapy With Me Feels Like

Person-centred at the core:

My core approach is Person-Centred Counselling — which is exactly what it says on the tin. It centres around creating a therapeutic space tailored entirely to you as an individual.

I believe that every person’s journey, experiences and needs are entirely individual, meaning therapy should never feel like a “one size fits all” process.

As an Integrative Counsellor, I tailor sessions specifically to each client and whatever they may be navigating or carrying. Integrative therapy allows me to draw from different therapeutic approaches where appropriate, helping us work in a way that feels most supportive, effective and suited to you as an individual.

Integrative & tailored:

Alongside Person-Centred Counselling, I am also further trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Psychodynamic approaches. I hold a Level 5 Diploma in CBT and a Level 3 Diploma in DBT, allowing me to integrate practical tools, coping strategies and therapeutic techniques into our work where beneficial.

This means sessions can be adapted depending on your individual needs, personality, goals and life experiences. For some clients, this may look like having a safe space to explore emotions openly, whilst for others it may involve more structured work around specific difficulties such as anxiety, emotional regulation, overthinking, low mood, self-esteem or unhelpful behavioural patterns.

Structured support when helpful:

Where appropriate, I can also work collaboratively with clients to create tailored treatment plans focusing on specific issues, goals or areas they would like support with, helping therapy feel collaborative, meaningful and centred around your needs.

Human beings are complex, and therapy should reflect that 🤍

My first session

Prior to starting therapy, I offer a free 20–30 minute initial telephone consultation, allowing space for you to ask any questions you may have and decide whether therapy with me feels like the right fit for you.

The first session is an opportunity for us to begin getting to know one another and exploring what may have brought you to therapy. We will also go through any practical or administrative elements together, alongside a brief initial assessment for record purposes.

There is no pressure to share everything immediately and we move entirely at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
