About me and my therapy practice
Hi, my name is Saad Malik (they/them). I am an integrative therapist specialising in anxiety, trauma, family issues, neurodivergence, gender and sexual identity.
I have lived in different parts of the world and I bring this rich experience with me when I work with my clients. Sometimes we have gone through our whole lives, and we have not had a chance for someone to truly listen to us. Therapy with me offers a relationship where you can begin to unburden yourself from cultural expectations, and find a congruent sense of a self which feels authentic.
I use two central approaches in my work with clients. I am trained in psychodynamic counselling which allows me to support my clients come to terms with the past, so that they can experience a sense of freedom and autonomy in their lives. I have supported clients recover from severe trauma issues, including emotional abuse, sexual abuse, racism, migration trauma, instances of transphobia and homophobia.
In addition, I also employ a parts-work approach which integrates the body. In my experience, people often need a body based healing approach alongside talk therapy. I welcome all parts of my clients, using a trauma informed, Internal Family Systems (IFS) approach. I can support you release emotional pain stored in the body from difficult experiences. Parts-work can also help you experience a more balanced and calm sense of self.
Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you would like to learn more about about how I work and if we could be a good fit. I offer a free thirty-minute consultation, via zoom, to help you get a sense of me.
Practice description
My experience includes working with Wellbeing Scotland to support clients suffering from trauma, including those dealing with chronic anxiety, domestic abuse, and bereavement. Additionally, I have worked as a voluntary counsellor at LGBT Health and Wellbeing, supporting a diverse range of clients.
I currently work with the organisation, African Rainbow Family, where I support refugee clients process their trauma, come to terms with the grief of migration, and find renewed hope. I am also the affiliate therapist with Glasgow Museum of Modern Art (GOMA) where I offer counselling to young creative people of colour.
Within my private practice, I have supported LGBTQIA+ clients on issues around familial acceptance, loss, abuse, and forging a stable identity in the aftermath of traumatic events. More specifically, I have supported clients release the pain in held in their bodies and find inner joy in their identity.
