About me and my therapy practice

If you are feeling as though it would be helpful to talk to someone, counselling might be an idea.

You might have something that you currently want to focus on changing and counselling can help you to explore this, reflect on any mixed feelings around it and help you to find ways of moving forward with your change. You may be facing a situation where change isn't possible, talking this through together can help you to move towards acceptance.

I believe the relationship between us is the essence of effective counselling. I aim to provide a warm, safe and supportive environment to help you to relax and feel able to trust me as you explore your thoughts and feelings.

Through the years I have provided counselling to many people of all ages and with a huge variety of issues. I have been described as a warm, empathic listener who helps clients to feel at ease in the counselling room.

If you come for counselling with me, I would see you as the expert of your life. I work in a way which draws out you, your thoughts, your feelings, your options and your solutions. I would encourage you to share your story. I feel it is important to hear your story and to try and understand your feelings and perspective.

Engaging with you and helping you to feel safe is the important starting point. I will encourage you to choose your focus and explore this in your own time and pace.

I am comfortable with both short and long term work and this would be guided you. We would regularly review the counselling focus to ensure the sessions are meeting your needs. There is always a direction for the counselling and positive endings are an important aim.

I have been a counsellor for thirty years and have worked in a variety of settings focusing on numerous issues, both with adults and young people. I work within the ethical framework of the BACP.

My first session

In the first session it is important to explore the focus of the counselling, to create a safe space and a rapport with each other. It is an opportunity for you to get to know me and my way of working and a chance for me to get to know you and get a picture of what is going on for you. Ongoing counselling can be decided upon at the end of the session.
