About me and my therapy practice
A calm and accepting space allowing you the freedom to think about yourself.
Psychotherapy that looks at both the surface and the underlying source of difficulties, not just 'what' you are struggling but 'why'. This supports you to make meaningful and long lasting change.
I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist with many years of experience specifically working with self-understanding and personal growth, emotional difficulties, self-esteem, burnout, anxiety and depression.
I integrate a relational approach to therapy which means I will be attentive to developing a relationship that enables you to feel understood.
By gaining self-awareness you can better clarify the ways in which to move beyond present problems and towards a future that feels right for you, making decisions that are more suited to your personal experience and needs.
I offer short term and open ended therapy bringing my experience from private practice adult therapy and couples relationship therapy within the NHS Tavistock & Portman Centre.
Psychodynamic Psychotherapist registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council, British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and the Professional Standards Authority.
Prior to individual based psychotherapy, I worked in the business and technology sector for over 15 years, most recently in the development of psychology based performance solutions within organisations.
Practice description
Embarking on a therapeutic relationship is an important step towards self care. As a therapist, I abide by a professional code of ethics to act with honesty and integrity to protect you and your boundaries. I provide a confidential, safe environment, listening with tolerance and empathy and providing challenge when it’s needed.
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is rooted in the concept of exploring unconscious mental processes and recurring patterns of behaving and relating which may be causing emotional and physical symptoms.
Most difficulties were, at one time, adaptive solutions to life challenges which over time and changes in circumstances have become self-defeating. I work with you to develop an understanding of the relationship between your early developmental experiences in the context of current life mental health challenges.
Habits of relating may be repeated in the therapeutic relationship and this can be thought about together. Experiencing and reflecting on these patterns in the therapy allows increasing awareness to open up and brings a ‘here and now’ dimension to the experience of therapy and the search for self-awareness and acceptance.
We would work together to create a relationship that enables you to experience being understood.
My first session
Before beginning therapeutic treatment, there is an initial consultation. The time allowed for this consultation is 90 minutes with normal weekly therapy sessions lasting for 50 minutes thereafter. The experience of the consultation should give you a better understanding of whether the psychodynamic approach is suited to your current needs, how I work and how we might work together.
It is useful to consider why you are seeking therapy before attending the initial consultation, which areas of your life you are grappling with and what your desired outcome for therapy would be - how things can be different from how they have been.
My practice is located in London Bridge, in close proximity to the mainline and underground station. and nearby Borough Market In Surbiton, the practice is located a short walk from Surbiton mainline station.
Therapy sessions last for 50 minutes and take place at the same time each week.
