About me and my therapy practice

Hello, thanks for taking the time to look at my profile. My name is Clare, and I am a qualified counsellor offering therapy sessions for individuals, in person and on the telephone. I run a small and safe private practice based in the heart of Machynlleth, where you are invited to come and talk about whatever is troubling you.

People come to counselling with a wide range of hopes and expectations, often wanting to feel happier or better equipped to cope with life’s difficulties and challenges. Maybe you are feeling sad, depressed, anxious, uncertain, or stuck: perhaps you are struggling with bereavement or other life events that involve loss, change, upheaval or new beginnings, leaving you feeling unsettled, angry or upset. Maybe you just need to be heard?

Whether you have long-term problems or a new difficult situation to deal with, being listened to by someone outside of the situation can really help. I believe wholeheartedly in the counselling process and totally understand how difficult it is to ask for help and how making the first step to contact a counsellor may feel intimidating or even frightening. I want to reassure you that this is completely normal, and it’s ok to feel this way, as sometimes in our lives, the most resilient of us can feel that things are spiralling out of control or not going to plan.

I offer an emotionally warm, calm, and relaxed space for you to take a moment to pause and explore your experience of the world. Moving at your pace, I will empathically listen and compassionately reflect what I hear and feel from you, all whilst being non-judgemental, honest and valuing you for being you. Empowering you to recognise your resilience and positive strengths, I aim to create an open and nurturing space where you may find new meaning, hope and understanding of yourself, with the outlook of creating a more fulfilling and contented life.

Practice description

I am primarily a Person-Centred Counsellor, although through continuous professional development (CPD), further training, and my own lived experience, I am able to draw upon a variety of approaches that I feel will be most useful and beneficial to the unique person that you are.

From both my personal experience and professional role working for a national bereavement charity, I have gained a deep understanding in the areas of grief and loss. Having engaged in an abundance of additional training to deepen my knowledge in these areas, I hope to enable you to understand and accept your present feelings and emotions.
