About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I'm Sara.
I am a qualified Counselling Psychotherapist and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), with over 20 years of experience supporting people through trauma, emotional distress, and life's many challenges.
I understand that reaching out for support can feel daunting. Taking that first step towards counselling often requires courage, particularly when you have been struggling alone for a long time. My aim is to provide a safe, compassionate, and non-judgemental space where you can feel heard, understood, and supported at your own pace.
Throughout my career, I have worked with individuals experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including trauma, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, grief, relationship difficulties, and the effects of adverse life experiences. I have a particular interest and extensive experience in working with trauma and Complex PTSD, helping clients understand how past experiences may continue to affect their thoughts, emotions, relationships, and daily lives.
I firmly believe that healing is possible. Although everyone's journey is unique, I have seen many people develop greater self-understanding, build emotional resilience, and move towards a more fulfilling and balanced life through the therapeutic process.
My approach is warm, collaborative, and tailored to your individual needs. I work alongside you to help you make sense of your experiences, develop coping strategies, and create meaningful, lasting change. Whether you are facing a specific difficulty or simply feel that something in your life is not quite right, counselling can provide a valuable opportunity for reflection, growth, and recovery.
Above all, I strive to create a therapeutic relationship built on trust, empathy, and respect, where you feel comfortable bringing your authentic self and exploring whatever is important to you.
Practice description
I have always prided myself on being an empathic, caring, and compassionate counsellor and psychotherapist. For me, the true measure of effective therapy is not only when clients feel supported and remain engaged in the therapeutic process, but also when they feel confident enough in their experience to recommend my services to others.
My particular area of expertise is working with individuals who have experienced trauma at any stage of life. I believe that healing begins within a safe, trusting therapeutic relationship where clients feel genuinely heard, understood, and validated. Together, we explore how past experiences may continue to influence thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and relationships in the present.
A significant part of my work involves helping clients build resilience and develop a deeper understanding of themselves. This may include exploring personal belief systems and where they originated, identifying and challenging long-held negative beliefs formed during childhood, developing healthy boundaries, implementing effective self-care practices, and ultimately fostering greater self-acceptance and self-compassion.
My professional experience spans more than 20 years across a variety of settings, including mental health services, domestic abuse agencies, sexual abuse recovery programmes, and substance misuse services. I also have extensive experience supporting individuals who have experienced narcissistic abuse, whether within intimate relationships or family systems. This breadth of experience has provided me with a strong trauma-informed foundation and a deep appreciation of the unique challenges each individual faces.

Why Clients Choose to Work With Me
• Over 20 years of experience in trauma therapy
• MBACP Registered Counselling Psychotherapist
• Warm, compassionate, and non-judgemental approach
• Specialist knowledge of trauma and Complex PTSD
• Mindfulness-informed therapeutic practice
• Safe and confidential environment
• Individualised support tailored to your unique needs
"Perhaps the greatest endorsement of my work is that many clients remain engaged in therapy, return when they need support, and feel confident recommending my services to others."
I do not believe in a "one-size-fits-all" approach to therapy. Every client brings their own story, strengths, and needs, and I tailor my work accordingly. My aim is to create a therapeutic experience that respects and supports the emotional, psychological, and, where relevant, spiritual aspects of each person's journey.
While my core training is rooted in Person-Centred Therapy, I also integrate elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, Transactional Analysis (TA), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). This integrative approach allows me to draw upon a range of evidence-based techniques while remaining grounded in the values of empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard that are central to person-centred practice.
Above all, I am passionate about supporting people to reconnect with themselves, develop healthier ways of coping, and move towards a life that feels more meaningful, balanced, and authentic.
As Carl Rogers said:
"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change."
