You might understand your anxiety really well and still feel completely stuck in it!
You might know where it comes from, and you may get why you overthink, need reassurance from others, avoid certain situations or find not knowing what’s next so difficult. You might even catch yourself doing it and think, “I know exactly what I’m doing… so why can’t I stop!?”
That’s because understanding why you feel the way you do is important, but it isn’t always enough to change it.
When we work together, we’ll make sense of what’s underneath your anxiety and where some of these patterns may have come from. But we’ll also pay attention to what happens when anxiety shows up in your life now.
Do you avoid? Check? Overthink? Prepare for every possible outcome? Look for reassurance? Try to get rid of the feeling as quickly as possible?
These things make sense. They’re ways of trying to feel safe. But sometimes the things we do to protect ourselves can unintentionally keep anxiety going.
Rather than only asking “Why am I like this?”, we can also look at what’s keeping the anxiety cycle going and you feeling stuck.
Therapy with me is about both understanding where your patterns came from, and helping you begin responding differently to them now.
If anxiety has started taking up too much space in your head or your life, we can work together to understand what’s keeping you stuck and begin finding a way forward that feels different.
