About me and my therapy practice
Whatever feelings you're carrying right now, they are welcome here!
Hello and welcome. I'm Charlotte (She/Her), I'm a Yorkshire based BACP therapist specialising in integrative counselling, couple therapy and clinical supervision. I use a variety of strategies adapted to meet your individual needs, drawing from a person-centred foundation whilst also incorporating CBT, NLP and positive psychology techniques. This means I can focus on issues using evidence based strategies to cover a range of differing circumstances.
The 'person-centred' approach to therapy is central to all talking therapies and is based on three core concepts: that as your therapist I am authentic, non-judgemental and empathetic. I fundamentally believe that human beings aren't flawed or broken. We might be feeling stuck or overwhelmed, unable to see the wood for the trees and just need a little help finding our way out of a difficult situation.
I offer all new clients a free, no obligation 15-minute consultation. This is your opportunity to get a feel for one of my therapy sessions and how it can help you.
Practice description
How many sessions will I need?
The length of time in therapy varies from client to client and depends on the issue/s you want to work on. You might have one session to 'have a go' at therapy or anywhere between 8 to 16 sessions to tackle a more complex or long-standing issue. In some cases, clients have regular sessions as a way to maintain mental health and well-being.
Do you set exercises or "homework" between sessions?
I don't always assign homework in a traditional sense because I see our work together as a collaboration. The most important thing is that you feel supported, with approaches that work for you.
My first session
What can I expect from the first session?
In this first meeting, the "work" is simply starting a conversation. You might talk about what a typical week looks like for you or what finally gave you the nudge to reach out. It’s more like sharing your story with someone who is purely there to listen, support you, and help you navigate the heavy stuff. You don't have to have all the answers, just feel welcome to show up as you are.
