About me and my therapy practice

You may feel like you’re struggling to stay afloat, feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, on edge or numb. Perhaps you feel down on who you are, past experiences are impacting you, or you recognise a pattern in your relationships but feel unable to change it. Starting wherever makes sense for you, I can offer you a space to come as you are where I’ll bring warmth, perspective and openness to help you work on what’s troubling you.

Working collaboratively with you at your pace, I can help you reconnect with feelings or parts of yourself that have become shut down, or increase your ability to stay present, curious and grounded when your mind is worrying about the future or stuck on the past. We’ll consider the unique cultural experiences that shape who you are, and we’ll work carefully to help process what’s feeling too much. Taking steps to ensure you feel as emotionally safe as possible in our sessions, my aim is to empower you in your choices and knowledge of yourself.

Trauma-informed practice is an area of particular experience for me, having worked for many years with survivors of sexual abuse and childhood trauma in specialist services and training further as an EMDR practitioner. This doesn’t mean anything ‘major’ has to have happened for us to work together though. I am also experienced in working with clients struggling with self worth, attachment, relationships, anxiety, depression and their identity. Whatever your current challenges, I am happy to discuss them with you to see if we might be a good fit.

Being attuned to the way that wider societal structures impact us is also important to me. I offer therapy that is anti-oppressive and LGBTQIA+ affirming.

Practice description

Integrating a range of approaches, I can respond flexibly to what would suit you. Fundamentally we will work to increase your awareness of the thoughts and feelings that you find hard to make sense of. We can do this in a variety of ways, depending on what you are looking for from our time together. We may use talking therapy, body-focused work, mindfulness or creativity.

For trauma focused work, we will take time to understand how your past experiences are impacting you now, and what strengthens or resources you. We will pace things carefully, giving ourselves time to build trust and explore what approach will best suit you. If you choose to focus on the traumatic memories themselves, I can offer EMDR, embodied/somatic psychotherapy, and/or parts work (or inner child work) to help process these experiences and reduce their impact on you now.

I’m always happy to explain why I might be suggesting something, and will regularly ask how you’re finding our work. The process may feel hard sometimes as we look at difficult feelings, but I will never expect you to do anything you do not feel comfortable with. I describe my practice as collaborative because while I bring my professional skills, we work together to identify what you'd like to focus on and in what way.

Currently I work part-time for a charity, and only offer online work in my private practice (held on Zoom).

My first session

I offer a free 20 minute phone call to discuss what brings you to therapy, answer any questions you may have, and see if we may be a good fit for each other. You can decide after that call whether you would like to book a first session.

At the first session I will outline what you can expect from me in therapy and I will ask a few more questions to help us build a picture of what your current challenges are, what support you have, and what you hope to get out of working together and therefore what we might focus on.
