About me and my therapy practice
You may be feeling caught in recurring arguments, disconnected from someone you love, or unsure why familiar patterns keep appearing in your relationships. Perhaps you are navigating cultural differences, neurodivergence or a significant life transition.
I am Carolin Sternecker, a BACP-accredited integrative psychotherapist with a Master's degree in Integrative Psychotherapy and additional systemic training. I work with individuals, couples and families, offering therapy in English and German.
My approach is warm, curious and collaborative. Together, we explore how past experiences, relationships and your wider circumstances shape the difficulties you face today. I draw on integrative, attachment-based and systemic perspectives, adapting the work to your needs.
With couples and families, I focus on understanding the patterns between people and creating space for different experiences to be heard. We may explore communication, emotional responses, trust, boundaries and ways of reconnecting.
I have a particular interest in neurodivergent individuals and relationships, including where ADHD or autism is part of the picture, and in intercultural and interracial relationships.
Having grown up in Germany and lived in several countries, I also bring a personal understanding of life between cultures. Identity, belonging, language and the experience of building a life abroad can all have a place in our work.
My experience includes NHS and charity settings, supporting people with complex trauma, life transitions, anxiety, depression and family challenges.
Practice description
I offer in-person appointments at The Practice Rooms in Cheltenham and online therapy across the UK. I welcome individuals, couples and families seeking support with relationships, communication, emotional difficulties and life transitions.
Sessions are available in English, German or a combination of both. I work with German-speaking clients living in the UK and with bilingual couples and families where different people feel more comfortable expressing themselves in different languages.
Where helpful, I translate or clarify individual statements and check the intended meaning with everyone involved. We can also explore how language, cultural expectations and different ways of expressing emotions contribute to misunderstandings.
You do not need to arrive with a clear explanation of what is wrong. We can begin with what feels difficult and develop an understanding together. My aim is to provide a respectful space where you can reflect openly, recognise patterns and consider changes that feel meaningful to you.
I offer a free 30-minute introductory video call to discuss what you are looking for, answer questions and explore whether we would work well together.
Current fees for 60-minute sessions:
Individuals: £75
Couples and families: £120 - these sessions take place every two weeks
Weekly or fortnightly appointments can be discussed according to your needs and availability.
My first session
I offer a free 30-minute introductory video call to hear what brings you to therapy, answer your questions and explore whether we would work well together.
The first few sessions are an opportunity to understand your family background, relationship history and current concerns. We explore what you hope to gain from therapy and begin to identify patterns that may be contributing to difficulties.
For couples therapy, I begin with an individual session with each partner before bringing you together. This gives each person space to share their perspective, personal history and hopes for the relationship.
For family work involving children, I begin by meeting each parent or partner individually. I also arrange a separate session with the children, followed by a session with the parents, before bringing everyone together. This allows me to hear different perspectives and understand both the children’s experiences and the parents’ concerns.
These initial conversations help us build a shared understanding of your relationships and agree on a focus for our work. We discuss how information from separate sessions will be handled, including confidentiality and its limits.
For individual therapy, we begin at your pace, exploring what feels most important to you. You do not need to have everything worked out or know exactly where to start.
